[BackupPC-users] Status info after upgrade
Hello again, After the upgrade to BPC 4.2.1 the General Server Information and specifically Other info started showing numbers like this: Pool is 721.67+250.21GiB comprising 2020177+1335190 files and 16512+4369 directories (as of 2018-10-25 01:44), Pool hashing gives 0+376 repeated files with longest chain 0+6, Nightly cleanup removed 344+0 files of size 4.59+0.00GiB (around 2018-10-25 01:44) See the "721.67+250.21GiB" for example? [BackupPC-users] DHCP backups - only once possible
Hi BackupPC Users ! I installed a BackupPC 4.2.1 on CentOS 7. All is fine, except one weird and (very) annoying behavior. For one computer, i use the DHCP flag (can't fix ip, can't ping with name, nmblookup -A working fine). Here is the "bug" : if this computer is online, the _first_ backuppc "wake up" (queueAllPC) after systemctl restart backuppc.service is doing a backup just fine. All dhcp range ip address are "scanned" with BackupPC_dump -d (ip address) and there is no problem. But, if : 1) the first "wake up" after backuppc service start dont find the computer (off network or shutdown) or 2) the others wake up search for the online and ready computer then BackupPC never find it and backup fail. So, if i want a backup to success, the client computer must be online and i must restart backuppc service. Heads up : When the dhcp range is scanned first time, backuppc use : BackupPC_dump -d (ip address) But all the others scan are : BackupPC_dump (ip address) (missing -d) Thanks ps : i apologize for my bad english, as this not my native language. If I thought samba was not going to work, then I would dump it. The fact that
it works for some of my computer, plus ALL computers at one of our other
offices, then I would happily move to rsync. Also, I tried rsync previously
with no luck.
SMB worked almost 100% when we used backuppc 3.3.1, so I’m not sure why it
should be so difficult. I’m almost at the point of blowing away this server and
building a fresh one.
Out of curiosity, has anyone else had a problem with samba 4.7.1? I did see one
mention in a forum somewhere that there issues were resolved with samba 4.7.3.
Thoughts?

Also, have you consider running rsync instead? While it requires a client-side
installation, its performance is higher and the include/exclude logic is
clearer and more flexible.
