[BackupPC-users] Backups disappeared from the WebUI for a host
Hello, For some reason all backups for a host have disappeared, but the data is still there, with correct permissions and there is free space. According to the web interface, that host has never been backed up. May be the backups file has been corrupted? This is the file list for that host: drwxr-x--- 3 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-03-04 07:59 0 drwxr-x--- 3 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-01-29 11:47 1 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-07 01:04 10 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-08 00:41 11 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-09 00:42 12 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-10 01:06 13 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-11 01:23 14 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-12 00:39 15 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-12 23:53 16 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-13 23:32 17 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-01-29 13:25 2 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-01-30 23:09 3 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-01 00:02 4 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-02 00:11 5 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-03 00:24 6 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-04 00:25 7 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-05 00:47 8 drwxr-x--- 4 backuppc backuppc 4096 2008-02-06 01:06 9 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1940766 2008-02-23 04:09 backups -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1958834 2008-02-22 03:57 backups.old -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 0 2008-01-23 10:33 LOCK -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 570 2008-02-01 00:02 LOG.012008.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 780 2008-02-15 20:41 LOG.022008.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1041 2008-03-05 06:25 LOG.032008 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 68831311 2008-01-25 14:50 NewFileList.0 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 15066023 2008-01-28 17:10 NewFileList.1 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 2082988 2008-02-07 01:04 NewFileList.10 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1402334 2008-02-08 00:41 NewFileList.11 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 2905443 2008-02-09 00:42 NewFileList.12 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 2175108 2008-02-10 01:06 NewFileList.13 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 2343114 2008-02-11 01:23 NewFileList.14 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1855843 2008-02-12 00:39 NewFileList.15 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 2160403 2008-02-12 23:53 NewFileList.16 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1821033 2008-02-13 23:32 NewFileList.17 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 17581591 2008-01-29 13:25 NewFileList.2 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 16104802 2008-01-30 23:09 NewFileList.3 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 17290491 2008-02-01 00:02 NewFileList.4 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 17072846 2008-02-02 00:11 NewFileList.5 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 17929422 2008-02-03 00:24 NewFileList.6 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 17499595 2008-02-04 00:25 NewFileList.7 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 2189510 2008-02-05 00:47 NewFileList.8 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 2371909 2008-02-06 01:06 NewFileList.9 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 126773416 2008-01-25 14:59 XferLOG.0 -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1832562 2008-02-07 01:04 XferLOG.10.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1551931 2008-02-08 00:41 XferLOG.11.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1668416 2008-02-09 00:42 XferLOG.12.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1625143 2008-02-10 01:06 XferLOG.13.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1713776 2008-02-11 01:23 XferLOG.14.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1628261 2008-02-12 00:39 XferLOG.15.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1730129 2008-02-12 23:53 XferLOG.16.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1797019 2008-02-13 23:32 XferLOG.17.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1550792 2008-01-28 17:10 XferLOG.1.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1634787 2008-01-29 13:25 XferLOG.2.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1634162 2008-01-30 23:09 XferLOG.3.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1710883 2008-02-01 00:02 XferLOG.4.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1641228 2008-02-02 00:11 XferLOG.5.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1707882 2008-02-03 00:24 XferLOG.6.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1650881 2008-02-04 00:25 XferLOG.7.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1725128 2008-02-05 00:47 XferLOG.8.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 1806967 2008-02-06 01:06 XferLOG.9.z -rw-r- 1 backuppc backuppc 402 2008-03-05 06:25 XferLOG.bad.z Thank you, Carlos. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. [BackupPC-users] Missing backup
The backup for one of my hosts did not run two nights ago. I can't find any indication of the reason why -- no errors at all. The logs indicate the backup didn't even start. My other two hosts completed successfully. This is the first time this has happened in about three weeks, and without me doing anything, the backup worked again normally last night. Since the logs don't indicate anything abnormal, I'm not sure where to start debugging this. Any clues? Cheers, Raman - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Some early versions had a bug where this situation would never trigger emails but the current version should send emails after EmailNotifyMinDays without backups. Another possibility is that other backups did not complete in time for this one to start before your blackout window. -- Les Mikesell [EMAIL PROTECTED] - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. [BackupPC-users] move a set of host from one backuppc to an other
hello, Is there any possiblity to move a set of host from one backuppc server to an other one. I was thinking to rsync all the server1:backuppc_dir/pc/host[1,2,3] to server2:backuppc_dir/pc and then ask backuppc to create the pool or the cpool from the backuppc_dir/pc any idea on how to do this. Yes it's possible. However, it's generally so much work and so time-consuming that you're better off just letting the new host run for a while to back up the data, until such time as the old data would have expired from the old host. If you have some very old data that you'd like to preserve, however; I think there is some discussion in the archives about how to copy just certain hosts and then rebuild the links. I can't think of just what to search for, but back in 2005 there was a thread called 'Cpool question' that may give you some clues. -- Carl Soderstrom Systems Administrator Real-Time Enterprises www.real-time.com - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Raman Gupta wrote: The other hosts that completed successfully run before the host that did not run, but after 3:30 am, so I don't see how the nightly could be the problem. Any other ideas? :-) The only other things I can think of are that you have set a different blackout period in the per-pc config if you have one (but you probably already checked that), or that for some reason the required time since the last run had not expired in time for the one you expected to start (perhaps a forced run that day, or some quirk in your server's clock). You can see the system's concept of the time since the last backup in the host summary page. -- Les Mikesell [EMAIL PROTECTED] - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Yes. backups should be a small ascii file with one line per backup. It shouldn't be more than a couple of kB max. Your backups file is huge. What is in them? Is your disk corrupted in some way? Re: [BackupPC-users] Missing backup
Raman writes: Ahh, that's it -- since the backup of the previous hosts the night before finished about an hour later than the current night, only 23 hours had passed since the previous backup. My incremental period is set to 0.97 (equivalent to 23.28 hours), so therefore it did not run. So I think I can do one, or both of the following: a) Set the incremental period to a smaller value, perhaps 0.7. b) Add a couple of wakeup times to try and get past the 0.97 threshold. Good detective work Les! If you only have one Wakeup, or a few wakeups within a couple of hour span, then you can set the incremental period to 0.5. The full and incremental period checks only happen at the wakeup times. Craig - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
