Sorry for replying to my own post.  I got the verbose working by editing    /usr/share/BackupPC/bin/BackupPC at around line 811:   push(@args, "-v"); After some more digging in the config files, I found that the RsyncArgs had be overridden in the host file to be only "--stats".  I don't know
