As part of the process of moving a mail server from one server to another
I set up a new server and added all the users. As a test I restored the
backup for one of the user's mailboxes to the new server, when I realized
an issue. The UID and GID for each user are different on both servers. So

Been using Backuppc for Windows and Linux servers for years now, added
a Win2016 server and have set it up as usual, but it won't back up the
server. Can't figure out what's going on and the logs are no help
either.
If from the server I try a rsync --list-only it lists everything. I

I was wondering if there was a way to make backuppc backup laptops as the
become available on the network. I don't want it to be dependent on the
user (I saw something about users starting the process themselves using
Unison).
If there is no such thing, I could of course set a schedule for when
My backuppc server has 2 HDs. Up to the present I have been backing up all
machines to one drive. But now I am adding a machine to backup and want
it's backups to go to the 2nd HD. My original idea was to just create a
symbolic link for the new machine under the pc directory where all the

Backuppc was performing an rsync back up one Windows XP system, on
which Cygwin is installed, for years now. But now it starts the backup and
seems to just hang there. That is, I can see it's backed up a number of
files and directories, placing them in the appropriate .../new/ directory,
but then a
So, I had a separate drive dedicated to /var/lib/backuppc where all the
backups were stored and other obviously important directories. But that
drive experienced total failure and I've replaced it. What do I need to do
to get backuppc to reconfigure that drive with all the directories it
needs.
Really odd, but I finally got it running based on the advice everyone gave.
Thanks!

After losing my /var/lib/backuppc drive, I have installed a new drive and
mounted it. But now any computer I try to backup results in the following
error:
Got fatal error during xfer (Unable to read 4 bytes)
Backup aborted (Unable to read 4 bytes)
Looking through various posts one would think
Additionally I did the following test:
/usr/bin/ssh -q -x -l root SERVER1 /usr/bin/rsync --list-only /home/
And it listed everything on the home directory of the Server I want to
backup without entering any password.

Les was on the money. It was the fact that /var/lib/backuppc is the home
directory for backuppc and I wasn't testing as backuppc. Reinstalling the
keys to the other server fixed the prob!

So, my backuppc server's primary disk had a failure. In the end I
reinstalled Debian 5 and backuppc 3.1.0. The drive that has all the
backups is a separate drive. It also has a backup of the former backuppc.
How do I go about telling the new Backuppc Server to take the backups of
