I have a lot of volumes which are marked Recycle. When a job start, it
recycle the volume which was used for the latest backup and the wolume which
is inserted in the drive. It is normal?

I just want bacula to recycle the volume which is inserted in the drive in
order it can backup on this one...

Thanks for your help.

Well, Bacula SD had a 'hang issue' in 2.4.4 too, but it got patched (and it
was different..). After the patch it worked very well.

About the issue in 3.0.0 - I actually see the same thing on FreeBSD-7.0 as
well, so I guess moving the one server from 6.3-RELEASE to STABLE won't fix
that.

[Bacula-users] Bacula at FUDCon / LinuxTag plus invitation to social event

2009-06-18 Thread Arno Lehmann
Hello,

I've been a bit busy recently, so first, apologies to those of you
whose issues I started to work through and then left. One of the
reason for the little time I have for the mailing list is that I'm
preparing a presentation, as well as BarCamp and hackfest sessions at
FUDCon, the Fedora event taking place in Berlin soon.

Note that, even though I'm presenting there on behalf of Bacula
Systems SA, I try to represent the community as a whole, i.e. this
will not be an advertising session for commercial services.

In addition to the regular sessions there, we at Bacula Systems
decided we would use the opportunity to sponsor a small community
get-together in Berlin - I believe some of you live in or near Berlin,
or will visit the LinuxTag or FUDCon events anyway.

Thus, you are invited to a the get together on June 27 in Berlin.
Drinks - up to a reasonable limit - are sponsored by Bacula Systems!

I'd really like to meet more of you in person. Even though we don't
have to discuss Bacula or Backups or your work, both Eric Bollengier
and I will be there to answer any questions you might have regarding
the relationship between the Bacula Open Source project and what
Bacula Systems does!

More details are found here:
http://www.baculasystems.com/eng/About-us/Events
please pre-register by sending mail to rob.morri...@baculasystems.com
- then we will know how many people to expect, and we will send you
the directions to the venue :-)

More info on FUDCon and LinuxTag:

I hope to see you soon,

Yes, most likely not. You could attach a gdb to the hung prozess, see what it
is doing and file a bug report or patch it by yourself ;-). I'm afraid there
is not much more you can do.

Well and we will postpone the update unless this is solved or maybe start with
a fresh server and a different OS. Over the years the combination FreeBSD and
bacula turned out to be suboptimal.

[Bacula-users] Need some help

2009-06-18 Thread Mark Nesterovych

Hello to everybody.

I am newbie with bacula. Can't find information in manual.
May be somebody already implemented what I want.

I have Incremental backups from few servers during working days and full
at weekend. Backups located at File storage. I want to create a new Job
which will backup Full weekend backup to tape. But not from sources
servers, I want it from File bases Volumes already created by other
jobs. I can create a Job witch will backup volume file to tape, but I
have few volume files and I should know which one was last writhed.

Can anybody point me to manual, if there is a problem solution, or give
some ideas how I can do what I want.

Sorry for my English.

No worries on that.

I have several jobs that all back up to disk. I then have one job that

storing off site. Is that what you're wanting?

 Hi,

I have a somewhat pressing problem with the performance of my Bacula
 installation.

My MySQL database currently holds 247,342,127 (36GB) records in the File
table, and 78,576,199 (10GB) records in the Filename table.

Since 3.0.0, but even more since 3.0.1, I have a problem with queries
being really slow. Basically when doing a full backup of a server
(mailserver, LOTS of small files), I can have my MySQL hanging for up to
24+ hours on queries like this:

 INSERT INTO Filename( Name )
 SELECT a.Name
 FROM (

 SELECT DISTINCT Name
 FROM batch
 ) AS a
 WHERE NOT
 EXISTS (

 SELECT Name
 FROM Filename AS f
 WHERE f.Name = a.Name
 )
[...]
Sorry, I don't know how to optimize it.

These queries are part of the new batch insert code. You can turn that
 off
by passing --disable-batch-insert to configure when building Bacula.

what does this mean in practice? 1 query per file? or?

The non-batch approach makes several queries per file.

But it will do so as it backs up the files, as opposed to the batch
approach where it collects all the queries and does them at the end of
the job, right?

I have a Run Before Job script named pre-tape-backup.sh that does a find

 Yep.
But how can I point volumes that have last info ? Not every one in the
 pool.

I have a Run Before Job script named pre-tape-backup.sh that does a find
for everything that was touched during the night's backup. My first
job in the night runs a script named pre-backup.sh that does a 'touch
$file'. I know that any file modified after that touched file is new,
so I feed those files to my last backup job for writing to tape.

  Hi,

I have a somewhat pressing problem with the performance of my Bacula
  installation.

My MySQL database currently holds 247,342,127 (36GB) records in the File
table, and 78,576,199 (10GB) records in the Filename table.

Since 3.0.0, but even more since 3.0.1, I have a problem with queries
being really slow. Basically when doing a full backup of a server
(mailserver, LOTS of small files), I can have my MySQL hanging for up to
24+ hours on queries like this:

  INSERT INTO Filename( Name )
  SELECT a.Name
  FROM (

  SELECT DISTINCT Name
  FROM batch
  ) AS a
  WHERE NOT
  EXISTS (

  SELECT Name
  FROM Filename AS f
  WHERE f.Name = a.Name
  )

Yes, but if you have spooling turned on, then it will spool the attributes too
and insert them all at the end using several queries per file.

[Bacula-users] Where is bat?

2009-06-18 Thread Ralph Böhme

Hello bacula-users,

after struggling for hours in order to compile bacula with --enable-
bat on Opensolaris, now that I'm done: where is bat?
I have a working bat script in my srcdir in src/qt-console that I
can startup just fine, but gmake doesn't install it, only bat.conf and
the manpage bat.1 which is exactly what is in the Makefile for the
install target.

What am I missing?

I'm configuring like this:
ra...@os:~/bacula-3.0.1$ cat myconfigure
#!/bin/sh
PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.5.1/bin
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.5.1/lib/pkgconfig
./configure -C \
--enable-bat \
--prefix=/usr/local/bacula \
--with-qwt=/usr/local/qwt-5.2.0 \
--with-mysql=/usr/mysql/5.0 \
--with-openssl=/opt/csw/ssl

Thanks!

[Bacula-users] Personal messages for every client

2009-06-18 Thread Reynier Pérez Mira
Hi every:
I have a group of people setting up some Bacula Clients. I'm checking
also some Clients and the Director. I'm asking if is possible to
configure Clients in Director (bacula-dir.conf) to send email to the
people who configure the client. For example: I'm setting up a client
called reynierpm-fd.conf but another specialist is configuring a client
called specialist1-fd.conf. Now it's possible to send the Bacula Errors
from reynierpm-fd.conf to my email address and the Bacula Errors from
specialist1-fd.conf to the specialist email address? Any tip or help?

 ra...@os:~/bacula-3.0.1$ cat myconfigure

 PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.5.1/lib/pkgconfig

 --with-qwt=/usr/local/qwt-5.2.0 \
 --with-mysql=/usr/mysql/5.0 \
 --with-openssl=/opt/csw/ssl

This is how I configure Bacula (client only) on Solaris Nevada (very
similar to OpenSolaris):

===
Add bindtextdomain to list of #undefs in src/gnome2-console/console.h

cat src/qt-console/bat.pro.in EOF
QMAKE_LFLAGS += -Wl,-R,/usr/local/qwt-5.0.2/lib
EOF

set path = ($path /usr/local/Qt-4.3.1/bin)
setenv PKG_CONFIG_PATH /usr/local/Qt-4.3.1/lib/pkgconfig
setenv LDFLAGS -R/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql

./configure --enable-client-only --with-openssl=/usr/sfw
--with-qwt=/usr/local/qwt-5.0.2 --enable-bat --enable-gnome
--enable-tray-monitor --with-python --prefix=/usr/local/bacula
--exec-prefix=/usr/local/bacula --with-scriptdir=/usr/local/bacula/bin
--mandir=/usr/local/bacula/man --with-working-dir=/var/bacula
===

and this is how I configure for Solaris 10 (server):

===
cat src/qt-console/bat.pro.in EOF
QMAKE_LFLAGS += -Wl,-R,/usr/local/qwt-5.0.2/lib
EOF

set path = ($path /usr/local/Qt-4.3.1/bin)
setenv PKG_CONFIG_PATH /usr/local/Qt-4.3.1/lib/pkgconfig
setenv LDFLAGS -R/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql

./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-openssl=/usr/sfw
--with-qwt=/usr/local/qwt-5.0.2 --enable-bat --enable-gnome --with-python
--prefix=/usr/local/bacula --exec-prefix=/usr/local/bacula
--with-scriptdir=/usr/local/bacula/bin --mandir=/usr/local/bacula/man
--with-working-dir=/var/bacula
===

You'll have to adapt some paths, e.g. I have MySQL 5.0 in /usr/local (Solaris
10 only comes with 4.0), and this is for Bacula 2.4.3.

I am relatively new to Bacula and know a bit about MySQL (just short of

Errcode 30 means Read-only file system so I think you might have problems
 with your /tmp directory.

What are the permissions on it? Can you create files in /tmp from the shell
when running as the same user as mysqld?

Is it a separate partition and does mount show rw for it? Have you tried
rebooting in single user mode and doing an fsck to check for errors?

Re: [Bacula-users] Where is bat?

2009-06-18 Thread Dirk Bartley

Install locations of bat is an issue being addressed I believe. There
were inconsistencies in some of the packaging as well as the basic
install from compiled source.

As a developer I always just run from the source location. All
apologies! I think that having the bat binary read the bat.conf
from /etc/bacula is a very recent thing in the head.
