[Bacula-users] I'm searching for MSL6030 snmp mib

2016-01-20 Thread Simone Martina
Hi at all,
I'm trying to monitor our old HP MSL6030 (rebranded Overland 6000)
tapelibrary. Due to these libraries are quite old, we cannot find the
Mib specs.

Can someone help us?

Thanks in advance.

[Bacula-users] Problem with a volume: unable to solve

2015-04-27 Thread Simone Martina
Good evening,
I got a problem with an old Bacula 5.2.5 (26 January 2012)
i686-pc-linux-gnu redhat.
Sometimes, during week-end differential backups I got a fail with mysql
dump job:

25-Apr 05:10 backup.lan-sd JobId 22026: Error: block.c:577 Write error
at 0:0 on device "Drive-1" (/dev/st1). ERR=Bad file descriptor.
25-Apr 05:10 backup.lan-sd JobId 22026: Error: Error writing final EOF
to tape. This Volume may not be readable.
dev.c:1551 ioctl MTWEOF error on "Drive-1" (/dev/st1). ERR=Bad file
descriptor.
25-Apr 05:10 backup.lan-dir JobId 22026: Fatal error: Volume Files at 88
being set to 0 for Volume "GJ8634L5". This is incorrect.
25-Apr 05:10 backup.lan-sd JobId 22026: Fatal error: Error getting
Volume info: 1992 Update Media error. VolFiles=0, CatFiles=88

With the same mysql backup we run succesfully other jobs saving simple
files without beforescripts. These jobs terminated correctly using the
same GJ8634L5 LTO-5 tape, so I believe is not a problem with the tape.

Have you ever seen a similar prbolem?

Thanks in adavance for attention and sorry for my poor english.

[Bacula-users] problem with MSL4048

2014-06-13 Thread Simone Martina
Hi at all,
since two weeks I got problem with my HP MSL4048, a two reader library
connected by SAS to my Centos 5 (32bit) Bacula server.
Randomly the s.o. is not able to see the library, but this one return no
error (on the web managemente): the only signs of problem could be seen
into dmesg output:
cciss :13:00.0: unknown unit attention detected
cciss :13:00.0: unknown unit attention detected
cciss :13:00.0: unknown unit attention detected

Could indicating an error into SAS board? Anyone encountered the same error?
This system runs correctly since two year...

Thanks in advance for your attention,

Maybe you can use bscan to scan the tape, the tool returns a DB

[Bacula-users] Error building 5.2.2 client only

2011-12-06 Thread Simone Martina
Good evening,
I got some troubles building 5.2.2 client-only file deamon onto Centos

I could rightly make a ./configure

--with-smtp-host=IPaddressOfMailServer
--with-job-email=emailoperator@domain \
--disable-readline --disable-build-dird --disable-build-stored
--disable-conio --enable-client-only
and a make, but when I lounched make install process stops installing
make pages with these errors:

gzip: //usr/share/man/man8/accept.8.gz already has .gz suffix -- unchanged
gzip: //usr/share/man/man8/accton.8.gz already has .gz suffix -- unchanged

... and so on until

I could complete my installation voiding install: section into

There is something wrong into my system or is it a little bug?

[Bacula-users] MTX-Changer support list disappears

2011-09-12 Thread Simone Martina
Good morning,
I've to buy a new tape library and I've discovered that HP dismisses on
July the well known MSL6030 (analog to Overland NEO 2000e).
Our seller want's to sell us a HP MSL4048, but mtx-changer web site is
offline and I could not see compatibility list:
http://mtx.opensource-sw.net/compatibility.php

Have some one tried an HP MSL4048 tape library with Bacula?

Thanks for any suggestions,

[Bacula-users] One SD two subnets

2011-08-02 Thread Simone Martina
Goodevening,
I got a little problem: I have a bacula director on a server with two
NIC interfaces, each of one got a different subnet: 172.20.60.0/24 and
172.20.61.0/24 and I could only use a single LTO-4 tape reader.
Now, the problem is howto configure storage section in director
configuration file, because the differnt client (from the two nets)
should receive two different IP to contact SD.

Now I have tried this storage config:
Storage {
  Name = TAPECORP
  Address = 172.20.60.1
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = "foobar1"
  Device = TAPE
  Media Type = LTO-4
  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 20
}

Storage {
  Name = TAPECUST
  Address = 172.20.61.1
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = "foobar2"
  Device = TAPE
  Media Type = LTO-4
  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 20
}

172.20.60.1 and 172.20.61.1 are, respectively, the IPs of BaculaDIR/SD
for each net (DIR and SD are located onto the same physical server).

Is it the right way to configure it?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions,

Simone

Yes, if you lounch ./configure --help you can see that using
--disable-build-dird --without-mysql you should compile only the storage
deamon.
Anyway, I'have not try this on my installations.

[Bacula-users] It's possible to parallelize backups?

2011-02-14 Thread Simone Martina
Hi at all,
since some weeks I got a new SCSI controller due to use a second tape
reader into the HP MSL6030 (a Overland NEO 2000 clone) tape library.
After some initially troubles and a some telephonic shout with HP
support, now I'm able to use both internal reader (nst0 and nst1) and to
control the autocharger (sg1).
Actually I've defined two test pools: IncrWeek and WinIncrWeek. My goal
is to get two simultaneous backups from two different client onto two
tapes, one for each pool.

The problem is that, when a job start gets the first drive ([0])
meanwhile the second job wait for first terminating, to use the same drive.

I've attached my sd.conf and my storage section, where's wrong?

Thanks for you time,

Simone

[Bacula-users] MSL6030: added a second tape reader -> problem

2010-12-01 Thread Simone Martina
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi at all,
yesterday I've added a second LTO-4 ULTRIUM 1640 tape reader into my HP
MSL6030 SCSI tape library. I'm using Bacula 5.0.2 on Centos 5 x64.
I've updated my config in this way:

## bacula-sd.conf
Autochanger {
  Name = "Autochanger"
  Device = Drive-1, Drive-2
  Changer Device = /dev/sg5
  Changer Command = "/etc/bacula/mtx-changer %c %o %S %a %d"
}
Device {
  Name = Drive-1
  Drive Index = 0
  Media Type = LTO-4
  Archive Device = /dev/nst1
  AutomaticMount = yes; # when device opened, read it
  AlwaysOpen = yes;
  RemovableMedia = yes;
  RandomAccess = no;
#  Maximum File Size = 5GB
 Changer Command = "/etc/bacula/mtx-changer %c %o %S %a %d"
 Changer Device = /dev/sg5
 AutoChanger = yes
  Spool Directory = /srv/baculaspool
  Maximum Spool Size = 50G
# Enable the Alert command only if you have the mtx package loaded
Alert Command = "sh -c 'tapeinfo -f %c |grep TapeAlert|cat'"
# If you have smartctl, enable this, it has more info than tapeinfo
Alert Command = "sh -c 'smartctl -H -l error %c'"
}
Device {
  Name = Drive-2
  Drive Index = 1
  Media Type = LTO-4
  Archive Device = /dev/nst0
  AutomaticMount = yes; # when device opened, read it
  AlwaysOpen = yes;
  RemovableMedia = yes;
  RandomAccess = no;
#  Maximum File Size = 5GB
 Changer Command = "/etc/bacula/mtx-changer %c %o %S %a %d"
 Changer Device = /dev/sg5
 AutoChanger = yes
}

##bacula-dir.conf (storage section):
# LTO-4 Storage
Storage {
  Name = TAPE
  Address = backup2.lan
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = "sdpassword"
  Device = Drive-1
  Media Type = LTO-4
  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 20
}

# LTO-4 Storage 2nd drive
Storage {
  Name = TAPE2
  Address = backup2.lan
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = "sdpassword"
  Device = Drive-2
  Media Type = LTO-4
  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 20
}

# MSL6030 Autochanger
Storage {
  Name = MSL6000
  Address = backup2.lan
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = "sdpassword"
  Device = Autochanger
  Media Type = LTO-4
  Autochanger = Yes
  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 20
}

The old drive is Drive-1, meanwhile the new one is Drive-2. I've
connected both the library (/dev/sg5) than the two reader to the same
SCSI chain using 3 SCSI cables and an ending SCSI terminator.
The library is happy, but when I've tried to run a backup job, Bacula
choices the first tape (the old one): after 2 or 3 megabytes the job
fails with this messages:

01-Dec 12:41 backup2.lan-sd JobId 2032: Wrote label to prelabeled Volume

and tries to load a new tape from the same pool (incremental pool).
After used any of available tapes, Bacula request a new one but fails again.

Now I've cancelled all jobs and, after erased a tape, I've tried to run
a manual backup jobs forcing use the new tape reader: this jobs ends
successful!
Till yesterday morning I've always use the old reader without troubles,
but now I got this error into dmesg:

Hi at all,
this (sad) morning I've tried to append a job to a used volume (a tape):
despite I've tried to update status, job retention and so on, Bacula
marks that tape like purgeable and begin to write the new data on the
beginning of the tape.
When I see that situation, I've cancelled the jobs, but the damage was
just done. Anyway, I've written only 45MB over 170GB of data.
I've tried to use bscan and bls to read the tape, but only the last
overwriting job is listed.

How can I scan the whole tape and recover old, non overwritten, jobs?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Simone

[Bacula-users] Trouble with regex fileset

2010-10-05 Thread Simone Martina
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,
I'm trying to backup some folders from a server. I could list them from
bash with this command:
ls /ftpdir/linkstar/rncc??/burst/*.gz

But I wasn't able to write the right file set, I've tried in this way:
  Include {
Options {
  signature = MD5
  compression=GZIP9
  Wild = "*.gz"
}
   File = /ftpdir/linkstar/rncc??/burst
  }

and also in this one:

  Include {
Options {
  signature = MD5
  compression=GZIP9
  regex = "rncc[.][.]/burst/*.gz"
}
   File = /ftpdir/linkstar/
  }

But in the first manner Bacula couldn't find my files, in the second one
none file is selected.

I would like to save on backup only .gz files from subdirectories of
/ftpdir/linkstar/ wich begin with rncc and end witch two char
(alphanumeric non predictable).

Could you help me?

Many thanks.

Hi John,
no, we have a vanilla installation of Bacula 5, we have not configure
any spooling system and we don't use accurate option. Anyway we got
heterogeneous behaviour between different server, so I would like to
exclude Bacula from the list of possible cause of this low speed.

[Bacula-users] Backup limited to 10% of network speed

2010-09-16 Thread Simone Martina
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi at all,
I've noticed that our backup system keeps much time to finish servers'
backup. Monitoring our 100Mbps net, by cacti, I see that backup speed
run at 1MBps, at least, meanwhile on another 1000Mbps we could have a
10MBps backup. This condition is the same over many different machines,
some behind router, other on the same net of backup server; we got the
same result both with a HP StorageWorks single tape reader LTO-3 either
on MSL6000 LTO4 Tape Library.

I began to think that Bacula limit its transfer speed to 10% of network
bandwidth: it's possible?

Any suggestions will be appreciated,
Simone

Thanks for your suggestion, but, despite I'm on Centos 5.5 x64, our
firewall is disabled due to make simple server management (it's an
internal system). I would hope there is a bacula parameter to tune file
speed transfer...

Our servers are connected by 100Mbps ethernet network, should I tune
Maximum Network Buffer Size parameter?

Thanks.

[Bacula-users] Two directors?

2010-07-28 Thread Simone Martina
Hi at all,
at the end of this year probably I will have to solve a trouble: my boss
would like to have an adjunctive bacula director (and sd, tape-reader
and so on) due to respect redundancy asset policy. Now, my Bacula
contacts every db server to remotely dump mysql tables to make a backup
of them.
The problem comes when each director want to start a client side script:
without a coordination system two jobs could dump the same db or,
worser, clean a dump while another backup is running.
There is not a coordination system between two directors?

Thanks,
Simone

PS: My english becomes very bad, sorry.

When I've to force recycling a tape, for first I delete it from the db
(delete volume=yadayada...), then I umount the tape and out of bconsole
I do: # mt -f /dev/nst0 weof
Once the tape was erased, I re-login into bconsole and relabel the tape
with the oldname (yadayada...).

Not very elegant, but functional.

Thanks, I've just cleaned many orphaned entries, but I got just another

dbcheck does not get a function to clear this data.
Should I purge them manually?

[Bacula-users] How to limit DB growing

2010-06-18 Thread Simone Martina
Hi at all,
my Bacula 5 system is still running since the beginning of February and
now I've seen that the size of my mysql instance is grown to 30GB.
My scheduled backups are so divided:
- a full backup on Thursday, recycled every 4 weeks
- a month full backup on the last Thursday of the month, never recycled
(will buried in a hole till the end of world :-P)
- a incremental backup every other day of the week recycling the tape
every two weeks.

I've noticed there is a prune (or maybe purge) parameter that permits to
clean old datas from DB, could someone suggests a useful configuration?

Thanks in advance,

Simone

PS:
At the end, my boss order a MSL6030 from HP. I'm waiting for the monster
:-P.

[Bacula-users] I need to buy a Tape Library

2010-05-17 Thread Simone Martina
Hi at all,
my boss give me a budget of 20.000$ to buy a new tape library for our
Bacula 5 server. I've tried to cross informations between MTX HCL
(http://mtx.opensource-sw.net/compatibility.php?sorttype=1&start=1&count=0)
and HP, our main supplier.
 From HP I've selected these libraries:
http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/ctoBases.asp?oi=E9CED&BEID=19701&SBLID=&ProductLineId=450&FamilyId=2244&LowBaseId=&LowPrice=&familyviewgroup=238&viewtype=Matrix&Matrix=
because our goal is:
- to have an autoloader system :-)
- to be able to connect two director to the same library (a main Dir and
a backup one for HA)
- if possible, to have two tape reader in the library, due to make
speediest search operations
- we have to use Centos 5.4 x64, so the library needs to be compatible
with it.

Someone, from this ML, has bought a new tape library working with Linux
and mtx-changer?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Aren't you using a TAPE to store your backup?
IMHO, probably the speed is bottlenecked by the TAPE
trasmission rate.
