After a month of tests it appears my Batty might have Cushing's Disease.
She is currently at the vets for a dexamethasone suppression test which
should confirm it. It's been a long month as she has only exhibited one
symptom which has made the diagnosis difficult. What is also frightening is
that
Hi All,
A few weeks ago I posted about my 7 year old Berner girl having labored
breathing with little exertion. Thank you for all that replied and gave me
suggestions to discuss with my vet. We had a cardiologist review the EKG
and chest x-rays, all normal. More blood work was done with red cell
My 7 year old Batty started open mouth breathing about a month ago with very
little physical movement. She's not tongue dragging panting, just breathing
hard through the mouth. She doesn't do this when relaxing, just when
walking or with more physical effort. Eating is fine, elimination is

Hi All,
For those of you that do not yet know, on Friday, the Toole County attorney
filed papers to retry the owners of the 170+ collies that were confiscated
at the Canada/Montana border. I sent the attorney a letter suggesting that
they seat a jury of the owners' peers, i.e.. dog breeders, not c

Last year my 6 year old Batty began limping. Three vets, two western, one
of eastern philosophy said she had a torn ACL. I was told that a better
evaluation could be done with anesthesia. As it was time for her to be
spayed, I decided to have both done at the same time. The ACL evaluation

Happy Holidays everyone,
I just got an email from my friend and author Barry Schieber of Nose to Nose
and owner of Moritz. He now has a website, www.nose-to-nose.com and in
addition to info on his book, he has various links. Click on "information
about Berners" and see how this man is helping us
Hi All,
Last month I posted about the 180 collies that were confiscated at the
Montana/Canada border on October 31st. The owners were transporting the
dogs from Juneau, Alaska to Arizona and the dogs had not been fed or watered
for a week when confiscated. One dog was dead and I cannot imagine ho
I am caring for a BARC Berner who most likely is related to Marilyn Blake's
Star. We have come to the conclusion that these two dogs demonstrate
claustrophobic behavior when they are in the house or car. Indoors, pacing
and panting is the behavior and as soon as they go outside all is fine.

I am so happy to tell you that my Sundance Damsel on the Rogue, Battenkill,
known to all as Batty, turns 7 on Monday the 25th. Batty is my first Berner

patiently endured the confirmation ring, being bred, and the birth and death
Hi All,
I just heard from my friend Barry, author of Nose to Nose, a book about his
therapy Berner Moritz. Their interview with Martha Stewart will be aired on
Friday November 29th...the day after Thanksgiving. It should be interesting
as the interview was outside at her farm and she sat on a hay
My 7 year old girl was spayed just over a year ago. She occassionally will
piddle when I scold her or if I want to groom her or even when I give her a
belly rub. I checked with my vet and she does not have a UTI or any other
illness. We discussed age/spay related incontenence and she prescribed
I'm way behind in reading the List but I wanted to come to the defense of
diet, and especially Innova. Living in the SF Bay Area, Innova was an
easily obtained dog food as it was manufactured there. I fed my first
Berner on it and she was GDC excellent with clear elbows. We moved to

Hi All,
As you may have read, almost two weeks ago a semi was stopped at the
Canadian/Montana border and it contained approximately 150 cold and
malnourished dogs, primarily collies and shelties, and 10 cats. The animals
were from Alaska and being shipped to Arizona. The drivers have been

Pacing is when the lateral pairs of legs move together. The right hind and
right front legs move forward and backward at the same time, and the left
hind and left front legs move together opposite the right legs. Pacing
creates a 1-2 beat vs. the proper gait which has a 1-2-3-4 rhythm beat as

Vilma,
I have a 15 month old female that paces with the slightest pull on the

a prong collar to keep her under control..no flames please. There is a good
