Still time - Drawing for Berner-Garde is tomorrow evening...

2003-09-06 Thread Dr. William B. Neff
Yes, you can still send me a check to support Berner-Garde and still be
part of the drawing for tomorrow night, BUT you have to send me an e-mail
telling me how much your check is for and how you want me to distribute
your tickets. We are not going to raise as much money as our all time
high of $7,484.25 - we are still far from it, but we do have a respectable
amount. We can always use more, though, so don't hesitate to join in on
the fun - you still have an excellent chance to win some nice prizes!!!
Here is the website:

Now the rest is up to you..

Hoping to get at least somewhat close to the old record!!!

2003-09-06 Thread Molly Bass
Please also remember the study that is now under way at the Fred Hutchinson
Institute in Seattle- we cannot have too many centers researching this
horrible killer of our breed! When you draw blood for one study, please
draw it for the other - these are both very worthwhile studies but it will
take us to supply them with what they need to complete their research.

I spoke to Elaine Ostrander in Seattle when I was there in August and they
have begun their work. I was very excited to hear this... They can still
use more samples but thanks to those of us who have given samples and
information, the study has begun. Let's hope these dedicated researchers
find a reason and a cure soon!

David,

Yes! HTML on the yahoogroup Berner-L is legal! And it shouldn't create
any problem for people who get the digest, but I'll keep an eye on that.
Be nice to us though - full color backgrounds and wild fonts are still
difficult for many people to read! My aging eyes aren't what they used
to be! Of course, they never were what they used to be...

2003-09-06 Thread bernerlover
Whew, I feel like I can take a deep breath for the first time in many days.
Woke up this am to many kind posts...tried to respond only to find I must
have burned out my old keyboard with all the e-mails of the past week. And
it was OLD. How old you ask? Still used Roman Numerals! Now have very spiffy
silent kind [Office Max on sale for only $6.49!!].

Ari is doing wonderfully. Sleeping and healing. I think her tail up,
prancing around act yesterday morning was just a ploy..get me outta
here!. But I can't imagine I'd be prancing around 5 days after having my
spleen removed, stomach re-rotated 360 degrees and stapled to my insides,
either. Eating small meals of whatever concoction I can tempt her with.
Mashed potatoes with baby food mixed with a little finely minced cooked
chicken has worked. Right now I'm just wanting to get a little something in
her. She went in weighing 83 lbs, and I would guess that she's down to about
70. Of course with her belly and halfway up her sides shaved, she looks like
a tri-colored greyhound, so maybe it's an optical illusion. I should have
had her weighed on the way out.

I have Bacchus going into the referral vet in Akron on Tues. Karen forwarded
me info from the Naturalberners list about an Oct Dog World article about
the University of Illinois Cancer Care Clinic wanting dogs diagnosed with
osteosarcoma to participate in a drug trial using the drug Pamidronate. I
wrote down all info to take with me Tues. Let's hope I don't have to use it.

And again thank you all for the prayers and support you have sent and
continue to send me. I know I wouldn't have been able to cope as well as I
have if it hadn't been for each and every one of you.

I was so touched when I saw this post. I'm sorry I didn't include the phone
for the vet clinic. Actually, the number I have [memorized...but I looked
it
up in the book, too] is [330]452-5116. They do not answer their phones
between 8am-6pm while they are closed. They are open from 6pm-8am Mon-Fri
and from 6pm Fri-8am Mon. In other words nights and weekends. All times are
Eastern Standard time.

So much for sleeping. I'm like a kid on Christmas eve. Took me till
midnight
to doze off.then I was up at 4. Reminds me of the night [s] before we
went to first pick up these 2 furbabies.

Who cares..I can sleep later.

Love to all

I would imagine that one could call the veterinary clinic with a VISA
number
as well. It might make donations easier for folks. Not from a trust
aspect,
just from a getting it done aspect. I know for me in Canada, it would be
easier from a foreign funds aspect.

I think that's what I'm gonna do. The phone number (looked it up on the
internet) is (330) 452-8906. Wouldn't it be cool if she got there to
pick
her up and Ari's bill is paid!! That would be grand, indeed!!

baka: no blockages but still having hind end problems

2003-09-06 Thread stmaybe
i'm greatly relived to know baka's diarrhea problem was unrelated to the
hind end weakness and pain. baka's been blood tested (came back perfect
except showing some dehydration), xrayed (intestine walls stomach
looks 100% normal now), examined by hand multiple times (nothing gets a
negative reaction, she just grins wags), and ultrasounded (nothing out
of the ordinary).

last night baka ate several small bland meals (she was ravenous), peed
fine, no vomiting, no nausea, no dry heaves nor grass eating. baka even
pooped last night, the first half was a little soft full of grass, but
the second half looked perfectly normal formed. the digestion problem
should be cleared up completely by tomorrow night i think the vet is
very confident there is not a blockage.

unfortunately that leaves us without an explanation for baka's inability
to stand up the other day. baka is standing up on her own as of
yesterday and she'll walk from spot to spot when she's in the mood, but
she's still arching her back walking strangely with her hind legs.
baka's also still slow to rise and slow to lay down, as if she were
stiff or sore (like she used to before her hip surgery a couple years
ago). our vet didn't feel or see anything obviously wrong, so we're a
little confused. and we don't want to put any pain killer in her system
until we're certain the diarrhea is completely resolved (she lost 6 lbs!
in just those 4-5 days).

i'm thinking of taking baka to see the chiropractor vet who is 30
minutes away. my thinking is that maybe her hands are more sensitive
could feel something being off that our regular vet might miss? either
way, my vet is expecting my call monday to see how baka did over the
weekend decide what to do next. i'm trying not to worry, but this is
certainly confusing. i don't like seeing my baby hurt not know ho to
fix it (and baka *so* unhappy now that the weather's cooled off i
won't let her go to the dog park, every time we walk past the car she
whines at it).

thank you to everyone who's emailed their support advice.

2003-09-06 Thread Jean Cheesman

Hi Lori,

I know you must be swamped with this change over but I have a quick
question for you. I moved over to the yahoo group- will I still get
all the posts or are there now two groups going on at once? I don't
 want to miss anything!

At the moment there may be some posts being double posted to both Lists! We
are doing our best here to make sure no-one misses out! By the end of the
month, hoping that everyone will have moved over, as the original List will
be closed down!

All new stuff coming in now should be on the new Berner-l but we will
cross-post any important stuff to the Original List!

Anyone who hasn't joined yet, please do it now!

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Berner-l

Over the next few weeks the Original List will be getting loads of Reminders
on this!!! The new List, Hah! Now a Yahoo Group is Up and Running

far!!!

Hi Mary,

There are a lot of people just waiting for me to do the drawing. It
won't be until evening, because I'll be gone most of the day. My
granddaughter, Gracie, is being baptised tomorrow and there is a meal
afterwards, so I won't get home until around 7 p.m. or so. I promise I'll
post to the list all 99 of the LUCKY WINNERS, even if it's midnight when I
get the drawing done and the list of winners typed.
For those of you who are still procrastinating, there is STILL TIME TO
ENTER the fundraiser. Just send me an e-mail telling me how much you are
sending and how you want me to distribute your tickets and you might be the
lucky person to win some prizes.

Yahoo Groups

2003-09-06 Thread Fran Jones
I for one am really sorry we have to leave Prairienet for Yahoo. I'll
tell you that in my experience, belonging to a Group on Yahoo is an open
invitation for spammers. Since I host my website on Yahoo Geocities and
I belong to a couple of other groups there, I have been getting ever
increasing amounts of spam. It's a colossal pain in the back passage!
But if it is a case of the List on Yahoo, or no List at all, there's no
contest. We'll all just have to bite the bullet and install
Mailwasher to intercept the CRA* and bounce it.
