We tested it out and did not see a big hit on performance. What we did
find was when we reformatted the device without removing the protection
first, the process took hours to complete.

When content protection is on, it doesn't just wipe the data, it scrubs it and
overwrites everything. That takes a lot more time since it's a secure wipe.
