Students,
you can now submit your applications for gsoc, we already have some
submitted :).

You can edit them after you have submitted them, so better to submit
early and edit than to wait till the deadline and miss it :)

This year I am considering proposing a new viewport for Blender as a
Summer of Code project.
Name is subject to change. I've already had one person think that I
want to preview compositing nodes in the view port. That is not my
proposal.
This email is to solicit some feedback so that I can

This sounds like a cool project. Very ambitious, even after you refine
the focus to one or a few things you mentioned. But you can handle it,
right? :)

I'm curious what you are trying to do.
Quick reply on this topic...
* happy view-port is getting some attention, it needs it :)
* Project seems ambitious, suggest to provide minimum targets in your proposal.
* I would feel better about this project if our view-code was in a
better state, Ideally IMHO this code should be improved
FBO is from July 2008 as part of the OpenGL 3.0 spec, but since Opengl
3.0 is the designed to support the same features as hardware that can
run direct x 10, which was introduced November 30, 2006 - that means
that it is beyond the 5 year time frame, especially since hardware
prior to that date
I just recently browsed through the last two months of logs to make sure
this has not been posted yet, so my apologizes if I missed it.

Aha, I guess this is what some users in IRC also reported. This has
specifically to do with fetching all bugs.
This can well be that the system simply just has to fetch too many bugs.
