I had delicious close-up views of a Red Phalarope in basic plumage as it flew
within 10m of shore into the strong southwesterly breeze at Point Petre this
morning (ca. 10:30 a.m.).
In the five hours I spent there, Lake Ontario was alive with water birds --
large numbers of Long-tailed Duck,
Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintains records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders already using eBird are encouraged to
share their sightings with 'Kingston FN'. Alternatively, please email, phone
or post records directly to me - contact details below.

I saw the Purple Sandpiper today at around 1:45. It was sitting on the rocks
right at Whimbrel Point and it flew west towards the next jetty.

Alan Wormington, Richard Carr and I found two Eared Grebes at the tip of Point
Pelee NP today. The first was a flyby with 3 Horned Grebes, continuing past the
tip to the south. The second is currently swimming at the very tip,
associating with a Horned Grebe.
