Although the Barn Swallow is still a common bird, the number of Barn Swallows
in Ontario has decreased by 65 percent over the past almost 50 years.
Currently, the reasons for the decline are unknown.

Today is the first day of the Point Pelee National Park Festival of Birds and
the start of the guided bird hikes offered by the Friends of Point Pelee. Cool
temperatures and strong westerly winds continue to affect migration.
An EARED GREBE was close to shore along the east side of the Tip
At around 11:40am this morning, I found an early arrival orange-crowned warbler
at Col. Sam Smith Park in Etobicoke.
The bird was foraging low in a tangle of thicket located south of the last
parking lot and on the west side of the main path leading south towards the
lake, right where it forks
Until today, this has been a slow week for bird migration at Presqu’ile
Provincial Park, though not without some surprises. On this first anniversary
of a fly-by NORTHERN GANNET, we are reminded that rarities do show up at this
time of year, not the least of which was a LESSER SAND-PLOVER

At 5:50 this afternoon an adult Little Blue Heron flew south over the
Hillman Shorebird cell.
Actually, we had it in view for five minutes as it was buffeted by
strong WSW winds.
Presumably if flew into the Pelee marshes and could be looked for there
tomorrow.

As of early this afternoon (May 1), the ibises being observed near Goderich are
no longer present at the pond or in the surrounding area. The birds were
observed being flushed from the pond and have not since returned. Local birders
