OFO is hosting a Breeding Birds Blitz at the spit this Sunday from 7:30 to
1:00 for young birders between 9 - 19. Meet at the entrance and bring
rubber boots, drinks, lunch and a pen and clipboard if you have one.
We will be locating and recording nests for the Ontario Nest
Yesterday - 27.05.14 - about 8 pm :
A Red-throated Loon that showed after 8 pm yesterday was not there this morning
- however Ross Lamb who reported it has photos of the bird - Reesor Pond lies
just north of Hwy 407 - south of Hwy 7 - on Reesor Road in Markham - cheers -

The bird is now hanging out in a group of scots pines just north of the
location I posted earlier.
It has apparently been faithful to this group of trees all day.

There is a Kirtland's Warbler along the eastern gap of Toronto Islands. It's in
a group of scots pines about halfway between the north and south end of the
island.
The bird has apparently been here all afternoon.
Take the
Birders, after about 1.5hrs of searching one of our group of 7 found the bird
in the furthest north of the Scots Pines (2nd tallest of the group) which are
about 1/3 of the way north of the southern end of the eastern concrete dock,
this is just 100m from the main trail out of the residences on
It should be clarified that the bird appears to be a first spring
male. While it was first singing when discovered by Jeff Harrison
early this afternoon, it was not singing at the time of our
observation between 4:15 and 5:15 pm. At the latter time, it flew
westwards from the Eastern Gap and
did think it a bit odd that a pair of wild swans would decide to hang out on
the lake in the middle of Cochrane, but stranger things have happened. The
birds were wary of people and tended to quickly drift away instead of looking
for a handout. However, I learned this morning that the birds

big day on May 27th within Northumberland County. Two long-time friends, Barb
