The annual OFO Leslie Street Spit outing today (May 25th, 2013) saw 38
participants take advantage of a sunny but cool ( 8 degrees, rising to 16) day
to tally 82 species overall.

success !

The Townsend's Solitaire still [thankfully] remains at its previous location on
Langstaff Road. On my fifth try, we viewed it at 4:20 pm today, perched at the
top of a spruce just south of the house. A scope is handy.

The Western Grebe reported by Howard and Alfred was still present at 2:15 pm
off Sunnyside Beach/ breakwater, perhaps 100 to 150 yds out in the lake. It was
between the termini of Parkside and Eliis Avenues , moving west.
Follow Lakeshore Blvd eastbound, and park in the lots between Windermere a
ports turning circle, not
the Eaton Hall turning circle.
The Seneca College King Campus entry is at 13990 Dufferin Street, north of the

25 birders joined Garth Riley and me (we're co-chairs of Friends of the Spit,
and OFO members) as we lead the annual OFO walk through the urban wilderness of
Toronto's Leslie Street Spit.

Ornithological Club Baillie bird walk at the Leslie Street Spit in Toronto.

under cloudless skies, in phenomenally clement weather, and hot

The barnacle goose was present at noon today at the foot of Nelles St,
easily viewed from the park adjacent to Nelles.
Nelles is a number of streets east of the previously reported Grimsby
locations.

Today, 44 OFO members, guests, and future members, walked the Spit and
Baselands ( Toronto's Urban Wilderness) on the annual OFO Outing. A
total of 85 species were seen; along with 6 butterfly species.
A highlight was two large flocks of Whimbrel: the first flock, seen at

today at 11 am , Victoria and I saw one adult Iceland Gull, and two
Glaucous Gulls (one second winter, other with head concealed) on the
ice (along with Ring-billed, Herring, and Great Black-backed Gulls) in
the bay between Humber Bay East Park and the shore pedestrian trail
north-east corner of Burlington Bay . the
viewing was from the south end of Allview Ave(Rd?), a dead -end street
running south from North Shore Road (west of the QEW) in Burlington .

(June 15th) as it sang from a hydro pole on the south side of Patterson

We had a great day! A group that started out at 40 participants (+ or
-) tallied 93 species on the Leslie Street Spit (aka Tommy Thompson
Park). Notable among the 18 warbler species (most seen in the
Baselands wet woods) were an obliging mourning warbler and large
numbers
Bohemian Waxwings were seen last night and this morning, in a small
ornamental crabapple tree at 59 Baby Point Road, Toronto. This is a
corner property, across from the tennis courts, and the tree borders
the sidewalk. 3 seen last night, two this morning .

I received a call from John at 9 :15 from the Spit. He, and about 6
other observers, have found the Western / Clarks Grebe in the same
location described in Bob Kortright's Ontbirds posting yesterday. The
light was still a bit poor so they are not sure yet which species it is
