The 74th Kitchener CBC was held yesterday (December 20). 64 species were
recorded on count day, above the twenty year average of 59. Total
individuals were about 25 000, slightly above the twenty-year average of 22
000.No new species were recorded.

On Saturday Dec 20th the Brereton Field Natruralists of Barrie went on
a Christmas bird count, ( I will post results when I get them. BUT
the hightlight of the trip was finding the White winged crossbills. A
club member had told us where to look out for them. We travled west

I was birding Kortright this morning. The weather was nice and there were
lots of birds to be found.
Three SWAMP SPARROWS are still in the Kortright Marsh. It is easy to see
them from the boardwalk right when you enter the cattails. Listen for their
calls and watch for movement. A

White Throated Sparrow at my backyard feeder yesterday afternoon near
sixth line and Upper Middle Road.

Middlesex, near Glencoe and then over at Seed and Cuddy area, previously
posted this past week about two snowy owls.
He didn't mention the snowy owls but found two Lapland Longspurs in amongst
a large number of snow buntings.

A Varied Thrush has been coming to a feeder west of Watson's Corners since
Wednesday, at the home of Keith Detloff. It is usually seen in the first
and last hour of the day, but today it was seen at noon. It is very
skittish and any slight movement sends it away from the feeder.

Around 1:45 pm this afternoon, I saw a Turkey Vulture flying along the 403
east of Brantford. It was east of the interchange at Jerseyville Rd and west
of where Sunny Ridge Rd crosses the highway (no interchange here). It was on
the north side of the 403 and was slowly heading west

Early this morning I was at the beach by Port Darlingon in Bowmanville for
the CBC. There were no other birders or birds except a lot of snow. I
almost got stuck in the deep snow but managed to make it home again. So I
