Today Andrew Don and myself lead an annual early spring trip to the Minesing
Swamp area north of Angus and CFB Borden for the Ontario Field Ornithologists.
13 birders in nine car participated. The trip started at 8:30am and wound down
around 3pm. After a couple days of rain the day started

While hiking through Yarmouth Tract this evening at twilight I heard a couple
of male American Woodcock singing in the overgrown fields that were planted
with prairie grass species directly adjacent to the large pond (restored
The combined total list for the day was a very respectable 51 species recorded
by about 30 participants and four leaders. Unfortunately, the heavy rainfall
and melting of snow and ice during the two days preceding this trip had a major
impact on where we were able to search for the target
I currently have a Eurasian Collared-Dove at the intersection of Albuna
Townline and Mersea Road 5. This is northwest of the town of Leamington.
From Leamington, take Highway 3 until you get to Albuna Townline and turn north
on Albuna until you get to Mersea Rd 5. It’s singing and is currently

the banding station. It flits constantly and will go to ground for 20 minutes
or so at a time but it is still present
Tommy Thompson is at the foot of Leslie Street at Unwin. You can park in the
lot on weekends
Seen by Chris & Ryan Leys, Donald Pye and Bill & George Prieksaitis at 8am this
morning. In the ponds by the house on Mersea Road 2 in Essex County.

There are 6 male, and one female, megansers just west of Pig Island in
the Rideau Canal. They were there last evening and this morning at 6:30am
Pig Island is opposite Lansdowne Park, at the bottom of the stairs to
Colonel By Drive at the intersection of Riverdale/Echo
