Currently we have 35 little gulls and 6 greater white-fronted geese in the
marsh.

Highlights:
42 Little Gulls (41 adults) recorded in the marsh. Up to 24 birds were recorded
at one time performing courtship flights over the marsh. Most of the morning
there were 5-20 gulls courting 50-500ft above the marsh.

The adult Yellow-crowned Night Heron that was posted to ebird lastnight was
present till 9am when it flew west from the small pond it had been at for
apparently the last few days.
It was at a small pond visible at #3147 Morgans rd. There are several private

Exit Hwy 400 at Essa Road in Barrie, head east toward lake, turn right in
Tiffin which curves right and becomes Lakeshore Rd. Turn left after a couple of

This morning Mike Ferguson and myself had a Neotropic Cormorant fly west over
the beach in a small Double-crested Cormorant flock. Fog limited the lake
viewing today. But other highlights were Piping Plover, Great Egret and

Twenty three people braved the gale warning winds to venture out for the 3rd
Sandbanks counts. The preliminary tally for the count currently stands at 78
species and 1 count week species. Previous counts were 81(2015) and 98(2016).
Cumulative total for the 3 years of the count stands at 114
The 4th Sandbanks Christmas Bird Count was held on December 18, 2018
22 observers counted 74 species (lowest ever, count average 83 species) and
11,280 Individuals (2nd highest for count)
5 New species for the count, bringing the count total to 119 species.

At 3:29 I had a swallow-tailed kite fly past my house near Oshawa Airport. It
is following a line to the nw which should bring it by Brooklin/ heber downs
