The Western Grebe found yesterday was seen for a short time at about 8AM
closer to the mouth of the river. It was diving regularly and I lost sight
of it beyond binocular range.

Took a trip up to Collingwood today. Two Ross's Geese continue to be seen
there as well as a male Wood Duck, Northern Pintails and an interesting
hybrid Graylag/Canada Goose.
The birds are at the boat launch area at the end of Birch St in Collingwood.

This morning at Windermere Basin in Hamilton I had a Snow Goose flyover
with a flock of Canada Geese. They circled as if to land but then flew off
toward the escarpment.
Windermere Basin is on Eastport Drive between Pier 25 and Beach Blvd in
Hamilton.

Andrew Don and I had the continuing Townsend Solitaire this afternoon
around 3PM at the tops of the evergreens behind Forfar Ct. It came and went
several times from there while we were in the neighbourhood.
Take Hwy 8 north from the 401, exit Hwy 7 east (Conestoga Parkway) to Hwy 7
east Victoria.
The Common Eider was present this afternoon around 2:20 on the east side of
the point where it has often been seen the last few days. The wind and
waves make it a challenge to view but she is close enough to shore at times
to be seen without bins.

The Common Eider continues at Humber Bay Park west this morning. When I
arrived at 8AM she was just east of the point close to shore with a pair of
Long-tailed Ducks. After 10 minutes it flew out onto the lake straight off
the point about 100m out and landed near a larger group of mixed ducks. A

same location at Rattray Marsh.

Seen today around 5PM, the continuing Ross's Goose was floating among the
large group of Canada Geese, at the eastern side of the park.
Directions
South on Bronte Rd from QEW to the bottom. Turn left on Ontario St and as
it ends park in the lot on the right. The geese were in the lake just east
Had one of the two Lincs in the low evergreen bushes in front of the police
station at around 12:30 this afternoon. It came out to the edge for some
seed that has been put out. Took some patience waiting for it to show up.

The continuing Cattle Egret was still being seen as of 12:30 this afternoon
in the same field. It is at the NW corner of Lakeridge Rd and Hwy 2 hanging
out with the cattle.

The Snowy Egret was back at Windermere Basin early this afternoon in
company with at least 5 Great Egrets. A noticably smaller bird with a dark
bill. All the Egrets remained at the back of the pond as far from the
viewing platform as possible. Heavy rain cut the viewing short.
Entrance to
Two male Dickcissel perched on the wires at the corners where Moyer Rd and
15th St meet in the Pelham area. They perched and sang for 10 minutes at a
time before moving locations.
The spot is an Ebird hotspot and can be reached by exiting the QEW at
Victoria Rd (24), travel south and turn left on
A pleasant surprise today. Just after exiting the 401 at Toronto Rd (#2) at
Port Hope spotted a male Ring-necked Pheasant in the Welcome United Church
Cemetery walking amongst the grave stones. I was able to pull over and snap
a few pics although the rain cut that short.10:30 AM

Seen today at Windermere Basin in Hamilton, at least 1 Eastern Meadowlark
calling from a treetop. There may have been 3 as I caught a glimpse of 3
birds flying away and a short time later the 1 went up to the treetop where
I could ID and photograph it. Another early arrival keeping company with 3
This afternoon just after lunch I found 24 Turkey Vultures perched on the
rooftops of the old church at Jerseyville Rd and Field Rd in Ancaster. That
is just west of Hamilton off the 403. Most were sitting still but 2 flew
from roof to roof and 2 others sat with wings outstretched in the sun. It
This afternoon between snow showers there was a Fox Sparrow and a male
Wood Duck at Riverwood in Mississauga. They were in their usual spots, the
sparrow at the feeder, top of the Yellow Trail and the duck among the
mallards at the inlet on the river
There was a male Wood Duck on the Credit River this afternoon with a group
of Mallards. They were at the area just off the Culham Trail by the fishing
sign where a point juts into the river and a stillwater. He is in full
winter plumage, very handsome.
