St. Lawrence River to a flooded area south of Green Valley along Cty Rd 34.
The birds likely roost overnight on the river east of Lancaster

Skilled birders are needed to survey Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) routes in
Ontario. Volunteers must be confident at birding by ear, have a reliable
vehicle, and be able to survey their assigned route once a year for several
years. Each survey consists of 50 3-minute point counts starting at

There has been very little reporting of bird movements so far this spring on
this ListServe so thought I’d provide a quick update on birds north of the
lakeshore.
Today I observed:
several Pine Siskins (10-15) doing courtship flights
Red-shouldered Hawk – scouting?
2 Cooper’s Hawks doing
For anyone planning on a Toronto island bird outing be aware that there are not
a huge number of migrants there yet except for Robins, Red-winged Blackbirds,
Grackles and Cowbirds.
Over the last 10 days I have visited the Islands 3 times and was joined on a
couple of the trips by Margaret
The Greater Snow Geese have arrived at the Cobb's Lake flood plain just east of
Bourget in Eastern Ontario. Today there were tens of thousands present, our
count was a very conservative 30,000; I suspect many more were present. We
picked out one Ross's there plus one each Golden and Bald Eagle.
Today at approximately 11am, two Golden Eagles about a hour apart at 3rd concession west of Hwy 59, near Port Rowan. Very high and very far looks but distinctive.Rick Thornton, Nancy Smith, Justin and Rachel Smith

Spring bird migration at Presqu'ile Provincial Park continues to be on
the early side. The Waterfowl Viewing Festival in the coming weekend
will likely feature thousands of ducks, but they may not be in the
traditional locations because of the extensive open water.

Hello Ontbirders,
Just a quick note from the northern parts of York Region. This morning I
headed up to the Ravenshoe Road fields just west of Leslie Street. Pretty
quiet on the fields but an early Greater Yellowlegs was a treat, along with
Killdeer, Green-winged Teal and nesting Bald Eagle
Drove early this evening (just after 6 p.m.) to Ravenshoe Rd. West at south end
of Keswick. At the swamp/heron rookery on the west side of Bruce St. (runs
north off Ravenshoe Rd. West), this season's first Great Blue Herons appeared
to be arriving at this swamp. Seven were seen perched near the
Flew from ellarton going east at 1415. Attempting to relocate.

Hi,
The Rideau River has it¹s annual concentrations of Canada Geese staging
about in the area, with varying numbers seem daily flying in various
directions to feed in nearby fields. There¹s been no particularly large
numbers to speak of. At about 3:30pm, I saw a small skein of roughly 40 dark
