[Blackbelly] MAR-APR-MAY transport trips are forming now!
hello everyone! I am accepting reservations now for MAR-APR-MAY transport trips. I have a few reservations (going coast to coast) but I don't have enough reservations to make the trips feasible. Your need for transport could be the deciding factor in allowing me to be on the road again. Gasoline prices continue to rise so transport fees are going to be going up also. I do not expect a worldwide recession to happen again to save us on gasoline prices. Using the Bruton luxury limo trailer allows me to make trips with smaller loads while still paying my expenses. Speaking of expenses I have decided to retire two of my tow vehicles (short van and van/RV with a total of 1 million miles between them), to rebuild the long van, and to build a new heavy duty tow vehicle based upon an extra heavy duty 'people mover' mini-bus. I have to build the tow vehicles that I need because no one builds a vehicle that is appropriate for the unique application that I have. This is lots of expense for me! Just more proof that I plan on being around for a while. For long range planning I will be transporting a load of T4 genetics boer goats to Pennsylvania for the True Colors production sale Memorial Day weekend. The consignors for this sale will have some of the very best colored boer genetics there for auction. Google 'True Colors Boer Sale' for information. My plan is to deliver the Texas consignees to the sale location, wait for the sale to complete, and then begin a coast to coast transport trip including sale animals (and other animals - my 'normal' loading) from the central Pennsylvania location. This is an opportunity for colored boer breeders to pick up new genetics with transportation guaranteed and for other breeders to move animals westbound. I may have limited space so help me by planning ahead! Go to www.jackmauldin.com/Articles/our%20article%20010.htm to see a recent endorsement of my transport services. Thanks Jack! Re: [Blackbelly] Giving Birth
Hi Natasha, Blackbelly sheep routinely have twins. Sometimes a first-time ewe will birth a single lamb, but from then on twins are the norm. Some ewes have triplets, but it is not common. The failure of your little ram lamb to impregnate the older ewe lambs could be caused by a number of things. ~He might have been too young and had not developed full fertility. ~He might have been too young and the ewes would not stand for him or he could not reach them ~He might not have been given access to the ewes while they were in heat (generally you need to allow the ram to cover the ewes for at least 35 days, allowing the ewes to cycle twice) ~The ewe lambs might not have been fertile yet; generally they become fertile between 4-6 months but I like to wait until they are 8-9 months old to breed them) As for the other ram who was with the ewes from mid-May until September I have no idea what the problem could be. Depending on where you are, it could have been too hot, causing temporary sterility in the ram. That's all I can think of at the moment. My other ram was with the ewes from mid May until September - how is it possible there were no babies? They did have young ones at the time, but I had weaned them already. What could prevent them from becoming pregnant? He produced lovely lambs last spring with these ewes. ___ This message is from the Blackbelly mailing list Visit the list's homepage at %http://www.blackbellysheep.info
Re: [Blackbelly] Giving Birth
Michael, Thank you for sharing your videos and pics with us. In a few weeks, I am expecting my first pure bred American Blackbelly birth and in the fall, my first Barbados Blackbelly birth. I have bred my wool sheep and an oops cross with a blackbelly, but my first purebreds are coming and I'm very excited. Nancy L. Natasha Natasha, the main reason I've found for ewes not getting pregnant when they're with a ram is because they are still nursing a previous lamb. I also think that Blackbellies sometime get into the habit of only mating at the prescribed time of year -- in the wild, animals usually, must have their babies in the spring! Also, Natasha, adding those 4 videos to my MobileMe album was an accident; I knew that they could not be loaded or seen. If only I could learn how to decrease the size of those hundred MB videos that I take with my phone so that I could put them on Facebook or email them! I have tried again to remove them: http://gallery.me.com/rickkrach#102097 Rick Krach Auburn, CA 95602 ___ This message is from the Blackbelly mailing list Visit the list's homepage at %http://www.blackbellysheep.info
