If you've got 'bsetbg' (which should've installed with blackbox)
$ bsetbg -f image.jpg
will nicely accomplish a scaled image to fit the whole screen.

Slypheed is pretty good. It's a GTK-based ap, IIRC, and has an Outlook
Express-y interface.
