Quicksilver won’t index _all_ of your files (and I wouldn’t
recommend that you try). You can look at Preferences → Catalog to see
what it’s currently including. Most of the File & Folder entries have
a limit to how deep they scan. You can adjust this by making a copy and
disabling the built-in preset. You can also add custom entries if there
are important folders missing, but I would be selective. 20 years ago
there were performance issues with adding too many files. That’s not
really a problem these days, but you probably want to avoid “noise”
in the results.

Also note that you can access any file even if it’s not directly
searchable in the catalog. With any folder selected, you can hit → or
/ to see its contents. You can then search those results and repeat
until you get to where you want. You can also quickly jump to the root
of your drive by just holding / for a half second or jump to your home
directory by hitting ` or ~.

2023-01-10 Thread Stuart Docherty
Looking to get some traction on this...

Read a little on the net, downloaded and installed the program, read
through the top end of the manual and on to some of the specifics, then
launched...

Now, I get that the algorithm learns as you go, but I'm struggling to get
started...

In all likelihood, I have commenced in a similar manner to others: enter
the name of a file you know you have.

a) I don't get a hit on the file(s)
b) scanning the hits, I mostly struggle to see the relevance to my item.

How to get a foothold in this program...?
I see people generally seem to like it...

yours in anticipation,

Stuart..

I don't think I understand your question very well. I don't think those terms
are related to Quicksilver, you might be looking for a different project.

Beginner questions

2008-11-24 Thread burtosa

I downloaded Quicksilver version B54 recently and have two questions.

1) Regarding emailing using Quicksilver: Why does FIrefox open a
Gmail message (w/o opening Gmail) when I try to attach a doc and
send? (Handler set to Gmail Module.) Also, why is the attachment not
actually attached in the email?

2) I DO have the append text option but my text is not showing up in
the documents I am sending them too. Any suggestions?

Because Gmail is the handler and Firefox is your default browser. QS
in this case is just creating the equivalent to a mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
URL and opening it. The problem is, when using a web mail interface
there's no way to specify an attachment. It would work if you used a
real mail program like Mail.app or Entourage.

I use Mail.app and have it configured to use my Gmail via IMAP. Works
great.

I have no idea what you mean by this. The Append Text action writes
to a text file, it's doesn't send a document.

More info is in the manual, just flip to the second of interest (Mail
or Text) and read a few pages :)
