Ken, I'm impressed your perseverance. I am not so much impressed with
chromium/qtwebengine. I have run into problems with chromium in that I
cannot log on to google with that browser. I am told that it is due to
security issues.

https://developers.google.com/identity/sign-in/web/troubleshooting
https://forum.armbian.com/topic/13921-cannot-login-google-services-using-chromium/

Note that Chrome is based on chromium, but they are not the same.

If it was up to me, I'd just drop qtwebengine and the only thing in BLFS
that uses it, falkon.

We should probably send a PR or issue report to DJ so that the
documentation is updated

Is DJ the maintainer of p11-kit? All I can say is that the file itself
has not changed since the last version. It has just been renamed,
because there is no substitution in it. BTW, that change was a PR by...
Xi Ruoyao.

Pierre

DJ isn't the maintainer of p11-kit, but he is the maintainer of make-ca.
In the README:

For the p11-kit distro hook, remove the "not configured" and "exit 1" lines

from trust/trust-extract-compat.in, and append the following:

===

# Copy existing modifications to local store

/usr/libexec/make-ca/copy-trust-modifications

# Generate a new trust store

/usr/sbin/make-ca -f -g

I'm not sure it's really necessary though

Yes, Removing the ".in" from a readme file is certainly not worth a new
release, but I think DJ reads this list.

Ok, so docbook-4.5-dtd is not needed: it is SGML, and we do not use
sgml. Also, I think any recent (above 1.78) version of docbook-xsl can
be used (whether ns or no). Many distros still have 1.79.1, and I guess
some users might want to render the book on host distro...

OK, we can change to a non-versioned 'docbook-xsl'. I don't have a
problem with adding docbook-4.5-xml.

Should we rename the sgml packages for clarification?

This is not the format defined in the template. Please respect it. I've
configured vi to apply the template format, not this one!

I'm not sure what you mean.  I just reverted to revision 17446
for this file, which is the version immediately before DJ's changes 4 months
ago.

Normally, the template uses:

   blahblah
   blobblob

(with a 2 character indent). It's much easier to parse when using a non xml
parser (xml parsers don't care). IMO, it is more readable too. Of course,
there are several places in the book where the old layout is still there,
because the text has not changed in the last ten years or so, but when
updating text, it should be moved to the new layout...

I understand that it is easier to just revert for now, and that reverting
reintroduces the old format. I think I'll make a big format overhaul (without
changing the text) after the release so that everything is at the new format.
Then hopefully any "text change-revert" cycle should not change the format.

OK, but we probably shouldn't be too pedantic about it, For instance,

Short entry.

Can be OK. That type of format is really required for constructs.

A bit too optimiostic, I think.

I've got the release page open (wanted to check the update which is
in firefox-72, that was 65.1), latest is 66 preview. It says 66 is
scheduled for March, as a low impact release with only unicode-13 and
bugfixes.

67 is the next feature release, scheduled for April.

I'll try t update the currency script.

Isn't it rather a case for recommended?

It was already required for systemd, so I just made it the same for SysV.

Details of the release are at
https://www.xfce.org/about/news/?post=1565568000

(I've no idea what GDBus is, or alternatively what provides it).

GDBus is a part of glib. see 'man gdbus'.

Since everything else is still up in the air, my suggestion is to
give it a try.

I have already used xfce4-screenshooter in 4.12, it is very useful and does
its job without hassle.Just noticed it can even be added to the panel with a
pre-defined action out of full-screen, active-window or select-region.

In short, I would certainly advocate its inclusion, as I regard the ability
to do screenshots quite integral to a desktop environment.

You seem to do a lot of the xfce updates, I would say that it ought
to be your choice.

Go ahead and take the ticket. If there are no major issues, we can put
it into the book. I will be updating kf5/plasma later this week and am
planning to have that in the next release.

Comment (by bdubbs):

An initial look shows a few packages that we may be able to drop:  gtk-
  xfce-engine, libwnck-2.30.7 (still used by lxpanel), xfce4-xkb-plugin.

There may be some additional xfce apps we may want to add:
  xfce4-screensaver and xfce4-screenshooter

Please do that also. xfce4-screenshooter would be nice also.

Good work, but if you'll allow me to put on my pedant's hat for a
moment - I think the cause is glibc-2.30.

I built cups-2.2.11 in the last 2 weeks, using kernel headers from
linux-5.2.2. LFS was at r11642 (21st July), BLFS at r21884 (30th
July).

You're right. I think I know how to modify the messages of rev 21827-21929,
but the changes will not be emailed to the list. They will be in the log after
you "svn up". Is it OK?

I do not think the change is worthwhile. We can live with it as is.

Just a progress report. I tried to change the value of prefix in
  config.toml to /opt/rust or /opt/rustc-1.32.0, but it won't work. I've
  developed a workaround.

Interesting. I expect I'll find out the gory details soon enough -
still in the process of adapting my scripts, then I'll boot my
haswell in 8.3 and try updating to 1.32.0, brief test, then 1.31.1
and switch the symlink.

  After DESTDIR=${PWD}/install ./x.py install:

  {{{
  mkdir -p install/opt/rustc-1.32.0
  mv install/usr/* install/opt/rustc-1.32.0
  rmdir install/usr
  }}}

  and then continue with

  {{{
  chown -R root:root install
  cp -a install/* /
  }}}

  And finish with

  ln -sfnv rustc-1.32.0 /opt/rustc

For ld.so.conf, add '/opt/rustc/lib' and run ldconfig.

Add a boot script that does 'pathprepend /opt/rustc/bin'

Why a boot script ? My theory is that only cbindgen, gdb (for the
testsuite), firefox, librsvg, thunderbird need to know about it.

So I'm thinking of the SAVEPATH approach like in LVM2, but put
/opt/rustc/bin at the front.

And I'm particularly interested in the possibility of reverting to
an older version.

The boot script makes the change more general and means that builds for
firefox, thunderbird, librsvg, etc will not require changes.

Attaching my script for now.

properly aligned in Python modules

Thanks, the modules look much nicer now.

I agree. Thanks for doing this.

Add script for cbindgen

  Thanks!

No problem. It was added at the beginning of Chapter 13 and the script
for that chapter started after cbindgen. The fix was relatively easy.
