Recently, Somebody Somewhere wrote these words Lastly, try it with the boot options noapic acpi=off (hit 'e' on grub's opening screen) and see if that cures anything. Yes, that's it... My mouse works. Before I tried disabling acpi I installed gpm to check wheather it's a X a kernel issue.
