I presume that ctrl-o is supposed to let one go to a web page???Anyway
when I use it I get the message what file to open.
No matter what I key in (I tried a website which definitely exists
(acbradio.org)),
I immediately get Can't open file message.
Question: What magic must I invoke in
ctrl-l is for webpages, ctrl-o is only for files.

Nope. ctrl+o is to open a local file. Use ctrl+l to open a web location.
Don't feel bad, that tripped me up too.
