I have an HP on this system that is several years old that was given to me and although it took some work I managed to find a windows 7 driver for it. My guess is that this program you are using actually changes your default sound card on the fly and JAWS just seems to go along for the ride for reasons it only knows. Now for example if you are using win amp and I believe media player has the same feature available you can change the sound card it uses itself. I'm thinking if you were to do that then JAWS would stay right where it is supposed to be without a care in the world so to speak. This is a work around but I am certain it will do what you want. Just start your player of choice, change your output and with win amp at least not sure about media player since it has been so long you might have to close out and then open the program again for it to play using the alternative card. A couple months ago I'd gotten a Cannon Lide 110 from Amazon for $47 all in. Nice little scanner. I'm sure there are faster ones, but it works great for my use. I use it to read mail, make a PDF copy of something, and that sort of thing; plus with DocuScan from Serotek. I don't use it to scann books, it doesn't have a document feeder on it. It's just a good clean, easy to use scanner, and portable too if you're into that. Works off just a single USB cable. Has four buttons in front PDF, Auto, Copy, and Email. Hope that helps. Sometimes I want music and other on the speakers and sometimes in my headset with Jaws, so I had just made a shortcut and hot key to the Sound applet for changing on the fly. It lands on the list of cards, I'll arrow down to my speakers, hit apps key and arrow to set as default. In Jaws you can set it to use it's own too of course. Hi Nitin, Those settings are for Adobe 11 / XI. The following steps are for Adobe 10 / X but, if I remember correctly, also work for Adobe 9. the latest version is Adobe Reader X. You need to disable protected view first to get it to work well with Jaws. Do the following: 1. From either your desktop or start menu, press enter on Adobe. The Adobe window is now open, press control + K, to open preferences. Another way to get to preferences is after pressing enter on the Adobe shortcut, press Alt + E, for the edit menu, arrow up to preferences, press enter. 3. When preferences opens you will be in a tree view and should be on the General page, if not arrow up or down until you have General highlighted. It is #4 of 29. Tab until you find a checkbox called enable protected mode at startup, uncheck it, choose yes on the warning you will get to continue. You need to look at 2 more settings so, tab until you have General highlighted again. 4. With General highlighted, press the letter I, until you have Internet highlighted. 5. Tab to, Display PDF in browser, if this box is checked press the spacebar to uncheck it. 6. Tab to connection speed combobox, arrow up / down for the setting that best matches your Internet Providers speed. 7. Tab to the okay button, press enter to close preferences save your changes, press Alt + F4 to close Adobe. Take care. I can tell you with Office Microsoft outlook 2003, enter on the e-mail and then do a shift tab and you will hear jaws users on behalf of and the person's name. If you use the left arrow and it will only go to the o of of and from there highlight the entire thing so you can then make a copy of it. Open a new e-mail with no one to go to and in the base of the letter to type paste what you copied. Then remove the of: and you will have and here is example: A: First you have of; Steve Gomes [finnygo...@q.com] B: Then by removing you will have: Steve Gomes [finnygo...@q.com] C: this you copy and paste to you want the letter to go too. Yes but the fact is it varies depending on your email client of choice. Basically you pick the address off of the message header and copy it to your clipboard then paste it in to a new message. Hi Steve, Try the keystroke, Insert, shift, + R, while in an open message. Make sure to read the, To field, after invoking this keystroke because sometimes it doesn't work. [Blind-Computing] final message before the list is shutdown
This is the final day for posting on this list: I would like to take a minute to thank those of you who have made this list a success especially to Bob, Rick and also Alex for his brief time as a moderator on here. We decided a couple of weeks ago that this would be the last day we would keep the Blind Computing list in business since the general consensus is that it has run its course. We are not closing down completely as the JAWS Users List will remain open for the foreseeable future. The fact is that list is much easier to moderate since it has a narrower guideline to follow so it is more cut and dry as to what is or is not on topic. We received several messages of thanks to this announcement and also a death threat believe it or not. Some people's kids get a little too demanding at times. Thank you all for contributing in this endeavor and with luck we'll meet again on the information superhighway. It saddens me to write this but these things happen, take care folks and stay well.
