Re: [Blind-Computing] Maintenance on Other People's Machines
Chris: Whenever working on someone else's computer, its a good idea to bring an external hard drive with all the important programs you might need to install again. Also make sure they have all the original CDS encase worse happens. Like reformatting the system. Reese - Original Message - Hi all, I went to do some maintenance yesterday at my friend's house using her laptop running XP Home. I uninstalled everything, including her antivirus, and didn't realize that her DVD drive wasn't working properly till too late. So I've now left her without an antivirus, but managed to get her some antispyware protection. What do you all think of me checking stuff out before doing any such maintenance? I didn't know this should have been done before anything else till tonight. Any comments on this would be greatly appreciated. I just hope she manages to find at least AVG 7.5 Free as she's still using JAWS 8. Thanks in advance! Yeah, well that was my intensions, to install what was on the CD then give the CD to her. This of course didn't happen due to the possibly dead DVD drive. It was actually a DVD I was going to give her, but so what. Shouldn't make a difference. -- Chris Hallsworth e-mail/MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] skype: chrishallsworth7266 klango: chrishallsworth - Original Message - From: Reese [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2008 2:35 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Maintenance on Other People's Machines Chris: Whenever working on someone else's computer, its a good idea to bring an external hard drive with all the important programs you might need to install again. This is why I suggest an external hard drive instead of the CD. Reese - Original Message - Yeah, well that was my intensions, to install what was on the CD then give the CD to her. Re: [Blind-Computing] Maintenance on Other People's Machines
How about this as a possible issue? Her computer is a few years old and it could be that I used an incompatible disk for her drive? If this was the case why would it: 1) not show any files or folders, and 2) display a strange i/o error message? Why also would it refuse to spin up yet it was trying to. -- Chris Hallsworth e-mail/MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] skype: chrishallsworth7266 klango: chrishallsworth - Original Message - From: Reese [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2008 3:08 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Maintenance on Other People's Machines This is why I suggest an external hard drive instead of the CD. Yes, either AVG 7.5 temporarily until December 31 of this year, or AVAST 4 Home.
