I just got a nice little set of box wrenches from Harbor Freight yesterday for
a $10 bill. Not a bad deal because there are 5 wrenches with a total of 10
different sizes to choose from. The cool thing is in my opinion they are
ratchet wrenches. They range from 1/4 to 13/16 inclusive and they
don't plan on using them a lot

Obviously you don't have high regards for that brand of tool. Interesting in
that I have no experience with them myself.

Jim,
Funny, I know a dowell pin as a literal pin made from dowelling
with champhered ends and sometimes grooves for glue.
but I'll ask next time I'm in my local store.
Thanks
Tom
Lenny,
Hanger bolts, that makes sense.
thanks
Oh yes geting more and more forgetfull all the time.

David, I am not sure about the Harbor freight ones but years ago I purchased
a similar priced set. I think I have two left. If you have to break a nut
use a regular wrench first. I broke the ratchet mechanism in them. So the
ones I have left I first use a regular wrench then the ratchet. I just
I usually don't use a rachet to break a nut loose. That is what a breaker bar
is for and then use the rachet to remove it. The racheting box wrenches should
be use in a similar manner using a solid box wrench for the initial braking
loose. Harbor Freight tools are not the finest quality but
I'm not sure what the warranty is on the things, like I said they were a
gift and should probably serve my needs since I don't work on cars or pipes
very much. Not running for office, just tired of hearing from those who are
is all.

You know, this realy does sound like a good deal. I doubt if I even have a
complete set of wrenches now anyway. Can somebody explain though, how a box
wrench can rachet?
Thanks.

The inner circle where the teeth are located pivot and there is a lever on
the outside to flip them to go either way.

Well, I just looked at pretty much all the wrenches Harbor Freight has and
couldn't find something nearly as cheap as David got. I wound up though, buying
a 25-piece set of SAE and Metric combination wrenches for $19.95. I'm sure
they're not the best available, but I don't use them all that
I have a set I bought to break the nuts on my Cub cadet. Haven't had a bit
of trouble with them after four years. And the nuts on the blades are a job.

Well you can probably use them a lot just not with a lot of torque. But then I
can shell the teeth off a Snapon ratchet too.

Kind of depends on how long the piece of pipe you have over the wrench also.
For what it is worth I once used a four foot pipe on the end of the breaker bar
on a three quarters drive breaker bar and socket from Harbor Freight.
