I'm betting that the original plan was to hang the door so it opened/swung
from the opposing frame and for some who knows why reason and after the
wiring had been completed they realized they had to hang the door as it is
now. Otherwise, would it be possible to switch the door instead of moving
Actually moving the door would be a significant problem. THe reason
being is I'd have to either have it swing into the hall, which would
pose issues or if it were to swing the other way into the bathroom, it
would open toward the sink and may not quite clear it or if someone
was in front
This would be more trouble to install, but would help with the space issue.
What about pocket doors?

Hi Jennifer, well that would be a fine idea, but based on my rough
measurements, there would not be enough space in the wall because
there is a return duct on one side that would not interfere with
moving the switch, but would for making such a door and the other side
is the utility rom,

Please realize that if there is a steel post buried in that wall it is most
likely a support for the house. Is this wall located about center in the
basement? If so, you can bet that steel post is very much a load bearing one
and you need to be careful not to compromise it in any way.

Max, I enjoyed every detail. That was a fantastic undertaking and well done.

Ah you take all the fun out of the project. grin Actually, I stuffed a
coat hanger in there and discovered by a little further checking that
it is the return duct. So, won't be an issue if I can fit the box in
there and I just might have enough room. It'll be pretty close to the
doorframe,
Oh come on Scott. You know what you have to do. You must rip down the
wall and the door, rehab the entire bathroom, re-plumb and rewire it, just
the way you want it.

Dan, you really shouldnt' say things like that. If it were up to me,
I'd tear the whole damn basement down to the bare walls and start
over. Actually I'd take this split-level and flatten it down to a
rancher or build on top of the living room to make a second floor.
This would of course
The first project is to build a lumber storage rack. Technically I guess
that is part of the shop but I'm going to consider it as a project.

Scott,
I doubt that your wife talking with mine would make your wife see the
light. In fact, I think if they talked enough, they might actually come
up with plans to do us in. I worried that Teresa was going to take a
shovel to the back of my head while I was digging the pit for the basement
