Lenny,
Thanks for sending this. I remember when I was little, my parents
tried to convince us that turning a light on cost $.15. They must
have thought we were really stupid, since the electric bill at that
time was about $12 for the month.

There is an old myth that it is cheaper to leave lights on as opposed to
turning them off. They totally busted that myth.
For an incandescent bulb the start up cost is the same as leaving the bulb
on for 3

Hi B H M ers.
Today I hung a temporary light socket, from the wires, and got lights on in
the shop. I actually had power to the box yesterday although I had a little
scare. I checked for power with my trusty Simpson 260 and didn't get any
readings. After testing for power at the house end
WOW Max! Sounds like a really nice job. When I finish my basement, I'll
fly you and Sue up for a long weekend and you can take care of the
electrical work for me. *GRIN* It will still be cheaper than hiring an
electrician.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.
For the basement I used the radio idea. Works great and I have something to

Hi All,
I am looking for a simple solution to the problem of knowing if the basement
lights are on or off.
Some days I can detect if the light is on but not all of the time.
Years ago I had a neat smoke detector that screwed into a light socket and the
bulb then screwed into this detector. The

Hi, Why don't you get one of the light sockets that screws into the light
socket that has plugs
Lenny,
Don't be a sissy, just stick your finger in the socket. *GRIN* You'll
find out if it is on or not for sure. *GRIN*

you could always wire an outlet onto it.
Go out of the switch into an outlet, and make sure the returns are all
correct, of course grounds where applicable.
You may not need the outlet, but could tell by plugging something in to it
if it were on.
Try something like a lamp in the outlet. No

Lenny,
I regret to tell you that Tom Benham, W3DD passed away last april..
His wife, Lee, is, I believe, still running Science Products, and they
probably still have the probe/tester, but it is quite expensive compared
to other basic light probes unless you want the continuity tester, liquid level
