top center there is either a solid top you can remove the top of this it has a cover plate on it just pops off and i am not sure but a socket either 1/2 or 9/16 inch is needed if you have a fabric softener top on it then right smack in the center of the cup is a bolt same sizes will apply

Depending on the type of handle you should be able to take the screw out of the middle of the handle and pull it off. It does not have to be held on with a screw to use it . Just hide the handle and when you need to use the water your self just take the handle out with you and slide it on the

Brice I can't remember if you said you hav a maytag or a Kenmore. I have a maytag and I looked at the ajetater and I discovered that there is a small bolt on the side about 2/3 down on the side. If yours has this, there may be a chance that the bolt is sheered or missing. I doubt that it is
