Two things, when using the plunger you should push down slowly and pull back with some force. By pushing down with a lot of force you are compacting the clog even more. If the plunger doesn't work I would suggest a closet auger. It has a long spring like snake that is controlled with a crank

Hi Jerry, I can't give you a brand name however I have had best luck with the sort of rubber plunger which includes a sort of cuff which can be rolled inside the main cup or extended to form a sort of bell beyond the main cup. With it extended it tends to make a much better seal in a toilet

The best way I've found to use any style of plunger is to make sure there is plenty of water on top of it. So if the toilet is threatening to run over there is plenty of water to work with. But there needs to be plenty of water to give a good seal on both sides. You can compress air but you
