for non-FOSS OSes are still relevant. After all, many people dual-boot
Windows and Linux or have multiple machines running differing OSes.

Speech-dispatcher currently has no code for a hardware speech
synthesizer. Your best bet is to try to find the correct Speakup driver

alt+B to open Bookmarks menu.
Arrow Keys to the bookmark to delete
alt to open context menu

Mark, you can also use Nama for trimming files. Like
Willem's dae, Nama uses ecasound for the heavy lifting.

environment, Linux actually gives the user multiple options whereas

short, software. The two available for Linux I know of are Tesseract

I recently downloaded a .mkv file with 5.1 audio encoded to flac and
as I inteneded to listen to it on my Blaze ET, which doesn't support
mkv files, I used mkvextract to extract the audio, producing a 1.1GB
file with roughly a 90 minute runtime. Unfortunately, My Blaze ET
apparently can't handle

You could get a stereo .wav using something like
mplayer -noconsolecontrols -novideo -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -ao
pcm:file=stereo_filename.wav downloaded.mkv
You do not need all the flags above, but it should work.
