I am not sure about those recreation areas. The program just added a bunch
of new parks around the country. I am still looking for the list. It is
possible that they may add more,. We just have to see what happens in the
future. The numbers are in the five digits now.

Re: [BVARC] New Antenna needed

I have the portable version. It works great. I think you will be fine with
the base version. Some operators use it to check into traffic nets in the
morning. You will need a tuner to get the bands you want. Otherwise a good
antenna.

Re: [BVARC] Brews with BVARC this Tuesday!

2023-10-10 Thread anthony moro via BVARC
As you say to me all the time ( you did not read all of my email). I said
at the end of my last response that if you had any more
questions or comments email me directly. I am not going to answer or say
anything bad about the board on the reflector. As stated in my last
response you can email me about the reason I left the board. I just
want the club to enjoy the event and don't want club members to be
causing problems about an event that both Kori and Mike put together. It's
interesting that the problem goes away a few months, and a month later it's
right back with more people causing problems. It's like somehow they were
told about only the bad not any of the good. For a while there were no
problems and now the past few months there is a problem with the event. I
mentioned the club president (Mike), because he talked to Kori about the
event and said, (go with it). So I don't understand how now he or other
club members have a problem with the event.

Re: [BVARC] Brews with BVARC this Tuesday!

2023-10-09 Thread anthony moro via BVARC
I have been thinking all day about this. I think this is a way of throwing
mud during the elections. This is not fair to either side. So everyone
knows I have left the board for this very sort of stuff. I think this club
needs to stop being divided and think about what's best for the club.
Acting like this about an event the club president allowed to happen is not
what's best for the club. I think that we need to leave the name of the
event alone and stop acting like everybody in the club doesn't drink at
all. I say this and also tell y'all about my past. I was given probation
for my third DWI. While on probation I found a great hobby, and all of yall
have been great friends to me. I know that at least one person in the club
has a few beers after work. There is nothing wrong with that. So saying
that, we should leave this topic alone and think and look to the future of
this club. If you feel the same way I feel then think real hard about what
is really going on in the club and see how we as a club can pull together
and put an end to this click kind of behavior. We should work together, not
against each other. Just like some of yall dont get up for the 6:30am
breakfast or leave work to go to the Lunch Bunch do the same with this
event. If you don't have the time and would like to be with the family
instead then don't go and keep your comments about an event the club
president allowed to yourself. I am appalled with the behavior of some
people that chose to act this way. I know yall are better than this. Now
let's get back to having fun in this hobby as one of the largest clubs in
texas, and show people what being a great HAM is about. If you have any
questions or comments about what I said in this email, please email me
directly. I am willing to talk to yall about how I feel about how the club
members are acting about an event that has been going on for almost a year
now. Also remember the club president allowed this event after talking to
Kori the vice president before he became vice president.

I am sorry if this sounded like I am venting. But I am just tired of all
the mud slinging in the club.

The Nano VNA is a great analyzer. I recommend it. It will help you with any
antenna you wish to buy or build. Again building it would be better. I can
help you source most of the parts localy.

Re: [BVARC] banquet overpriced?

2024-01-11 Thread anthony moro via BVARC
So after lots of looking at the past banquets all I have to say is WOW.
What happened to that type of Award Banquet? I don't see why y'all don't do
something like this? Another one of the great things the club used to do
but wont do again. Check out this link and look at the past banquet Pics.

[BVARC] Why not to use XYL

2024-01-07 Thread anthony moro via BVARC
So today I was schooled why I shouldn't call a female operator a XYL. So
XYL means unlicensed female operator, or ones wife that is an operator.
Either way it seems to me that it is not a good idea to say that to you
better half if she is an operator. I was given this when I said that.

Young Lady
The term "Young Lady" derives from a Morse code abbreviation, YL, that is
used to refer to female amateur radio operators, regardless of age. (As
male operators of any age are addressed as OM or "old man", the
non-licensed spouse of an OM is often called an XYL.)

[BVARC] Changes to the POTA Event

2024-01-30 Thread anthony moro via BVARC
Hello all,
I am writing this message to let everybody know about the
changes we are making to the BVARC POTA Event. We will no longer be running
the event as a BVARC (Brazos Valley Armature Radio Club) affiliated one. We
will not be doing it every month. *We will however still do the event for
the city. *This means we are inviting every club in the city of Houston and
beyond. We are looking into a way to let everyone know when and where we
are going to do the event. For now February the 25th is the last BVARC
sponsored POTA Event. We are looking at doing it six times out of the year.
Times will be determined by the event managers. More info to come on the
upcoming events and where to find us.

Thanks,

Your Friendly POTA Operators

Re: [BVARC] Changes to the POTA Event

2024-02-01 Thread anthony moro via BVARC
Your email makes sense but has nothing to do with the topic at hand. I sent
the email to let people know that we will still be doing POTA events. Just
not with the BVARC name. We are going back to the way we did things when we
first started things. It has nothing to do with what the BOD has said or
done. I am only speaking for myself at this time, but I was happy helping
HAMS during POTA. There are many reasons why we are doing the events
without BVARC and we talked about this during WFD. I agree we need to try
to be more professional as operators. That goes for all of us. From the Top
Brass to the lowest man on the pole.

So for everybody watching this email thread. We will give out more info on
what Kori and I are going to be doing next.

Thanks, 73

Again yall are getting off topic. The topic was not about repeaters. It was
about members supporting the club. How do yall go from supporting the club
to repeaters that don't belong to the club?

Hi everyone,

We would like to invite you to Houston POTA’s
event
where everyone is welcome.

A few important things to know.

   -

Park access is 5.00 per person unless you have a Texas State Park pass.
   -

We will provide radios so the only thing you need to bring is yourself,
something to drink, and snack on.
   -

You are welcomed to bring your own equipment to use, ask questions
about, or to share with others.
   -

You can use your own call sign if you decide to get on the radio.
   -

Of course, you do not have to operate the radios, you can come out for a
fun time with your fellow hams.
   -

This is a family friendly event.

We look forward to seeing you all there. Don’t forget to join our new
facebook

group to stay updated on all our events.

73,

Anthony (W5LIC) and Kori (WX5KR)

So hey guys and gals we have decided the next event will be on the East
side of town. The date will be the 20th of July. We don't want to get
caught up with Field Day. So we are skipping June. It will be the same bat
time, but different bat channel.

We will be at Sheldon Lake State Park US-3056. The time will be 9am to
4:30pm. The park closes at 5pm. The talk in frequency will be 146.520.

I can't wait to see yall then. Happy Field Day and good luck from
your friendly POTA operator Anthony(W5LIC). Till then 73 and POTA on !!
