Re: [BVARC] Radiowavz, K4KIO or NA4RR hexbeam
Gary, Great info! I think at least for me, the degradation issue between 10 and 12m is negligable, based on the OCF and the Alpha vertical that I am coming from, regardless of which broadband version of hexbeam I'm going to. But the rest this is a lot to drink in. I do have more questions that I have for the manufacturers. Again, great stuff and thanks for passing it along. 73, Rob, KC5RET On Tue, Oct 18, 2016 at 5:38 PM, Gary Sitton via BVARC <bvarc@bvarc.org> wrote: > I included a link showing the 12/10 M. Gary, I wasn't aware there was another design in use, other than the Spiderbeam. I like the hexagonal design as it seems to shed the wind better. [BVARC] Kenwood TS-590SG for sale
Hello all, Selling my TS-590SG bought on 1/1/15. Radio, power cord, mic, USB cable, original manuals, NIFTY manual, and box, although the box was a little beat up when I received it. Still has over 2 years remaining on extended warranty. Never around smoke, and it's in great shape. I offering it to club members first before posting to QRZ, QTH and other places. $1175 and I'll pay the warranty transfer. Pelican type case available for $30. Will deliver within 50 miles of 77080. Need to fund project for better antennas. 73, Rob, KC5RET ___ BVARC mailing list BVARC@bvarc.org http://mail.bvarc.org/mailman/listinfo/bvarc_bvarc.org
[BVARC] Rigs and antennas for sale
Hello all, I have a couple of radios and antennas for sale. Wanted to offer them to folks in the club first before putting them on QRZ, Eham, Craigslist and Ebay. FT-897D - has 110v power supply installed. No filters that I know of. Bought this from Mr. Morton about 3 or 4 years ago. Don't use it since buying my TS-590SG two years ago. Took it to HARS for alignment and check. I think they replaced one of the VHF/UHF finals. Turned it on once to see if it worked and it's been in a closet ever since. Has mic and power cable. Will include RT system programming cable and software, amp key cable, orignal boxes and inserts. Nifty manual included. Not interested at this time in selling the rig without the PS or the PS without the rig. Not interested in trades unless you have a almost new 47' HD Spiderbeam aluminum mast. Asking $900. If you pay asking price, you can choose either one of the wire antennas offered below to take home. I can also offer you a LDG 125w tuner if you need one. FT-7900 - I've only turned this on a couple of times. Bought it for an application that never materialized. Has new, unused remote head kit. Original box, mic, power cord. Manual and Nifty manual. Asking $250 Antennas Alpha Antenna EZ Military 80-6m. Bought it from a fellow BVARCer, never used it. Was going to try to retrofit the matching device from this antenna which is good for 500w, with my original Alpha antenna (which was only good for 125w), but never got around to it. Includes tripod, mount, NVIS kit, and counterpoise kit. collapsible vertical element. I never used it, it's a bargain. $180, you pay what I paid. WIRE - NI4L 80-6m OCF. Bought this for a buddy in Indiana, but he doesn't need it. This is a 'winterized' version of NI4L's normal 80-6m OCF. Normal is made with #14 wire, mine is made with #12. This works great on everything but 15m. 135' long. Put it up once to check SWR. Asking $75 WIRE - NI4L Fan Dipole. 4 bands, 40/20/17/10. Flexweave #14 wire. includes balun. Don't need this as I use PAR HF Omni's and an NI4L 80-6m OCF Asking $90 Pictures on request. Email me here or call\text me at 832 586 6799 for quicker response. Cash or Paypal only. Asking prices will go up on the other places. 73, Rob, KC5RET ___ BVARC mailing list BVARC@bvarc.org http://mail.bvarc.org/mailman/listinfo/bvarc_bvarc.org
[BVARC] MSWE - how did you do?
Hello all, This was my second year for MSWE and it seemed like conditions were worse than last year, but my persistence was up. I got started at my Woodville QTH about 3 hours after the event started and logged 17 ships by 2300 UTC on Sunday. The majority of those were on my Maxcon 80-6 OCF dipole at 35'. However, i did get 5 total contacts on my PAR Electronics 20m Omni. at 25'. Nice when I can use that antenna as it drops the noise about 5 S units. All but one of my contacts were at 100w. One of them I got at 20w as I forgot to switch the power back to 100w after finding out PSK31 still isn't working on my Kenwood. I know what I need to do better next year are antennas with GAIN. Thanks to Rick, the op on the Elissa, I think that was my 15th ship. I know getting to Galveston was a bit dangerous due to the high water. Next year I'd like to do more digital on MSWE, like RTTY and PSK31, if I can ever get the bugs out of my HRD + Kenwood setup. And i'd like to try a magnetic loop antenna when using those modes. I am curious, did anyone else in the club participate and if you did, what was your setup and how did you do? 73, Rob, KC5RET ___ BVARC mailing list BVARC@bvarc.org http://mail.bvarc.org/mailman/listinfo/bvarc_bvarc.org

[BVARC] APRS/iGate/Digipeater help
Hello all, Finally got off my duff and renewed my membership today. Long overdue and my humble apologies for not doing so sooner. Over a year ago (and possibly 2 years ago) I wanted to get a APRS/iGate/Digipeater setup when my ham QTH was in Needville. I can’t remember who offered to help, but they did tell me that installing one there isn’t necessary as that part of far SE Houston already has good coverage. Fast forward to now, I bought an Alinco D135 2m rig with a Tracker3 (Argent systems) already installed, and I'd like to setup an APRS/iGate/Digipeater at my ham QTH in Woodville. I have only seen ONCE a locator on the APRS.fi map, and given there are only 54 (I think, including me) licensed hams in Tyler County, I'm sure it can use more than one setup. I have searched my old email and can't find who offered to help or at least point me in the right direction. I have the rig, all the accessories EXCEPT the GPS puck, and antenna, just need help flattening the learning curve. Whomever offered to help told me he had a setup at his QTH like I would like to have at mine, if that helps narrow the field a bit. [BVARC] Problem for the brain trust.
Hello all, I have a good friend and former coworker who has a communications problem. She's in the TXANG and remembered that I was a ham, so she asked if I could help. I've done all I could (which admittedly, wasn't much) but I did tell her I'd pass her problem along to the group and see if you could help. Here's her question: I know that HF ALE to SMS texting is possible. What I'm wondering is could that be a workable communications option from an aircraft operating at 4500-9000'? I've tried a satcom InReach with disappointing results. Frankly, any and all ideas are entertainable at this point. I have L band and S band antennas; I can possibly replace with a different antenna as long as it can occupy the same footprint as a currently installed one. We have UHF/VHF and FM radios... I will find out more about those... I had to look up HF ALE, sounds a little like Winmail or Sailmail (the one ham op sailors use to send email?) but I'm not sure if that's what she wants. [BVARC] Digipeater / iGate help
Hello all, A while ago (not sure how long, but it's been months) I had asked about setting up a digipeater / iGate in Needville. It was demonstrated that there was someone nearby, also in BVARC, that already has such a setup. Now that I have my ham friendly QTH in Woodville, I'd like to set up a digipeater / iGate there, mostly to serve as a 'beacon' on http://aprs.mountainlake.k12.mn.us/#, the 2m propagation map. From the little research I've done, this would be the only active digipeater / iGate in Woodville and possibly Tyler county. Would whoever is running the digipeater / iGate setup in BVARC contact me off list and get me RE-pointed in the right direction on getting this project going? Leave the HT on until the battery dies and the HT shuts off. 2. Place battery into charger - preferably an intelligent charger. 3. Shampoo - lather rinse repeat for each battery pack.
