Re: [BVARC] Fwd: ARRL Request to Contact Your US Senators Supporting S 1534 - the Amateur Radio Parity Act

2017-07-27 Thread K5IZO via BVARC
That is true EXCEPT after ARRL's initial attempt which was reasonable, the
HOA's got wind of it and created a ruckus. Then congress told both parties to
come up with an agreement or there will be no action. That is when ARRL rolled
over and completely capitulated to the HOAs and gave them EVERYTHING they
wanted. We would have been better if ARRL agreed to nothing and let it die. So
yes, it might have been "the best they could agree to" BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN
BETTER TO NOT AGREE TO ANYTHING AND IT WOULD HAVE GONE AWAY.
Did EVERYONE who is following this email trail read Pete's article in the

Re: [BVARC] Fwd: ARRL Request to Contact Your US Senators Supporting S 1534 - the Amateur Radio Parity Act

2017-07-27 Thread mark janzer via BVARC
Rather than using the ARRL language, on the fly, I rewrote their letter to
this: (feel free to use or modify).

As a constituent and one of more than 51,544 FCC - licensedAmateur Radio
Operators in the State of Texas, I am writing to ask that you do not support S.
1534 in it's current form.It places undue burdens on the amateurs it seeks to
protect.
The Bill does not balance the interests of all parties.  It ensures that
community associations permiteffective outdoor antennas, but does not provide
direction, achievabletechnical standards, or reasonable time limits on
approval.  It does not define reasonable written rulesconcerning the
installation, placement, and aesthetic impact of externalamateur service
station antennas. It requires notification to the association and their
priorapproval of antenna installations, so Amateurs will be required to
removecurrent installations pending approval. The rights and responsibilities
of community associations andassociation residents are so completely protected
by the terms of this billthat it will set back Amateur radio rather than
promote it.
I ask that you insist that S. 1534 be revised to clarify and define the
approval process, standards and timeline before it leaves committee and before
it goes to theSenate floor for a vote. Thank you for your consideration.

 Dear ARRL

to obtain passage of The Amateur Radio Parity Act.  Our legislative efforts
scored a major victory in our campaign when The Amateur Radio Parity Act, S.

Keith, et al,
Indeed, this bill is a disaster and will certainly lead to the demise of
amateur radio.Do indeed see the article on Page 3 of the October BVARC
Newsletter (on the BVARC website).
The ARRL started what was to be a good thing, but then capitulated to the HOAs
on EVERY point and makes it impossible to get approval while exposing ourselves
to the fact that we have unapproved antennas up, which will then makes anyone
with such an antenna guilty of federal crime, when this bill inevitably becomes
a federal law.
The ARRL doesn't have the balls to "man up" and admit that they screwed up.
On to fly fishing.

[BVARC] Fwd: ARRL Request to Contact Your US Senators Supporting S 1534 - the Amateur Radio Parity Act

2017-07-27 Thread ke5ith via BVARC
I am sure many of you have seen this email from ARRL. I would like to hear
comments from others on their thoughts on this bill.

If I understand the bill correctly it still gives HOAs final say to antenna
installation. I don't like that personally. It also requires you to notify the
HOA if you already have antennas up and get approval from the HOA in order to
keep them.
