One of the camera's I enjoy using is a Kiev 35a
which is a copy of the Minox 35. This is a scale focusing 35mm camera with
a 35mmf2.8 lens. The camera functions only in aperture priority
withnon-TTL metering.
I would like to build a similar scale
focusing645 format camera. I would not
Regarding a stepper motor, I believe that computer
printers employ a stepper motor. Used computer
printers are nearly free at thrift stores. They also
have a built in controller but some adaptation would
be necessary for your needs.
Sounds like a fun project
in addition to the dryer vent material - they make a
duct material that comes in 6, 8 and 12 inch sizes. A
2 foot length will compress down to an inch. Heating
contractors have it and will let you have a foot or
two for free usually. Shiny inside, but could be
flare-proofed with flat black
If you want to try this yourself, here is the easy
thing to do. Get a front surface mirror from Edmund
Scientific of the approximate size or larger and of
the same thickness. Cut it to size with a glass
cutter and install in place of the old one. Or
better/cheaper/faster, get a Polaroid for $3
I have been looking for a Crown Graphic and then I
thought I might get a field camera and then I thought
I might try to build a field camera and then...
But yesterday, I ran into a friend who had come into
some cameras a few years back from a gentleman who was
a machinist. One of the cameras,
I would suggest any of the old Polaroids that take
pack film in the 600 (film) series. There is a
Polaroid page that gives you a great rundown on the
models.

The 600 film series gives you a chance to use color,
black and white (3000 ASA) and the
I call it the film gate. Maybe someone else knows the
real name. Maybe that is the real name.
Have you thought about getting a junk 6x9 folder and
stretching it to fit a 6x12 format or using the film
gate parts on your 6x12?
I, too, don't find myself really competent at some
fabrications. If
I was given a Beseler 45m in pieces. After assembly I
was not very happy with the condensor head and thought
I might build a cold light head. The Beseler has a
stove pipe (round) opening where the light head fits
in. Oddly enough it is not a standard pipe size but
is about the same size as a

If you get into pinhole photography sites and books on
the subjet there is a lot of discussion of unique
cameras. There was a gentleman who used a van as a
camera. He had a hole on one side of the van and
taped paper to the inside of the other side. There is
a gentleman that used his mouth as a
Murray, I have a Cambron SP-1. I can't find any
patent numbers on it, but I would make one suggestion.
The Pentax, Cambron, Minolta, etc. are all shaped like
guns. I start to get nervous using it sometimes,
especially with the paranoia going around now. There
have been stories in the press
The best way to home process bulk film is the Morse
G-3. If you do a web search there are several good
descriptions of what they are and how they work.

Through various purchases and trades I have some
surplus equipment I would like to offer for free.
There is a catch, however.
I have a Solar 5x7 enlarger (diffusion) with
Wollensack lens (the lens is not very good) with a
homemade 4x5 negative holder (not bad). The bellows
has been patched with
About this free stuff, could you indicate where it
is? Thanks, Fred

The Solar 5x7 diffusion enlarger and the Beseler 4x5

About 80 miles north of Los Angeles. My email
The Beseler 4x5 and the SOlar 5x7 enlargers are gone.
Michael was kind enough to drive up from LA and help
me clean them out from the garage.
I would like to say Bom Dia to Guilherme Maranhao.
