I agree that all the deprecated stuff needs removing and we have made a
start on that. The version I have on github will work on 5.4 now, although
it still has a number of warnings/notices that need sorting. I got

So you need to create the directory gui/smarty_template/templates_c

errors? It may have something to do with the fact that it's XP machine, but
I really don't know much about windows.
