Mark Chao decided to accept the challenge of finding me my first
breeding male Bay-breasted Warbler at Sapsucker Woods this morning.
As he had found one on his last five visits, he was feeling
confident. However, after we first wandered the trails near the
Woodleton Boardwalk, where he had
Nancy Chen and I enjoyed a nice but brief morning in the East Hill Orchards
today. The highlight (for me - Nancy just got back from a month in Florida
and was less excited) was prolonged looks at a soaring BLACK VULTURE
immediately overhead for several minutes, then drifting off to the west.
Among the birds banded this morning was our first Acadian Flycatcher of the
year.
Hummingbirds arrived late yesterday. The Acadian is a good week early and the

This morning was the birdiest I have ever experienced at our property on Hunt
Hill Rd. I awoke at 5:30 to hear a Redstart singing outside my window. By 6
am the amount of bird song outside was incredible. There was quite a flock of
