On a walk around Upper Buttermilk yesterday afternoon I was surprised to
see a GREAT BLUE HERON lift off and fly upstream from the marshy area at
Lake Treman. Don't see how it could find sufficient food there to
survive, much less just keep warm. Selfishly it would be nice to have
it stick
Flew into the area bounded by Plain, Center an North Titus abt 4:45,
rested and moved on - many still there.

I saw hundreds of crows flying down Rte 13 heading towards Cornell around 4:30.

They are coming from North Lansing at least. I am now on Conlon rd north of rt.
34B/ Ridge Rd. and see some crows stopping briefly in a line of
Hammond Hill Owls (HHOWLS) 2016 tally (south end of Hammond Hill 2.2 miles east
of Slaterville Springs):

I have this fascination with owls and I believe I have gone out on some 60
Christmas Counts in pre-dawn hours looking/listening for them. I find that my
hearing isn't as good as it once was and I can't hear owls that are calling
from as great a distance as I once could. I would

Several of the folks who counted birds for Danby last year and the year
before will not be able to participate this year, so this is an appeal for
folks to join us in Danby on Jan 1st. This coming Saturday we will he
