Having moved to a new house in the woods, a distance from the road, I hung
feeders up a few weeks ago. Birds have been gradually discovering them. I
saw this Kinglet today and my notes tell me I saw one at my old house, a
few miles up the road, on this very same day (April 1) in 2007.

I was out trying to photograph wild turkeys in a friends woods just south
of Corning. Among the small birds was a golden-crowned kinglet. It was so
close, 3 feet, that I could not focus on it. I watched it probe the small
branches on the hemlock I was next to. I heard a few seep voices above,
I often get them on the Xmas bird count.

Yesterday morning, I had a very good look at what I was pretty sure was a
Golden-Crowned Kinglet. It seemed early, though, so I started second-guessing
myself. This morning, I was putting it up to one of those mystery birds that
never get identified.
With a little bit of research help from
