[cayugabirds-l] Lots of juncos
I just counted 45 juncos in my yard, and I don't even have feeders up, although we do have lots of native plants, and the seeds are getting blown everywhere. [cayugabirds-l] A somewhat unusual question
I have a question from an historian friend of mine about identification of a bird illustration in a 16th century Italian manuscript. My guess has been a Black Crowned Night Heron, but I’m hoping for some expert opinion. I’m not sure if the list allows attachments, but I can send a jpeg to anyone who would like to attempt an identification. [cayugabirds-l] Sunday Birds
After walking up and down Salt Road in the Summerhill SF this morning (highlight - Brown Creeper), I stopped by Myers town park and the private marina. I was surprised to find the (a) Purple Sandpiper still foraging among the gulls out on the spit. The lake was quite rough and rain was spitting in, so my scan of the water was quick - one Common Loon flying north just above the surface. South from the marina the lake was again nearly empty. 5 Mallards, one DC Cormorant, and a small group of four Surf Scoters were riding the waves. Also of interest was a Merlin perched on one of the snags above the pool behind Ladoga. [cayugabirds-l] Purple Sandpiper
?Hi all, Here is a link to the clip I took of Purple Sandpiper this afternoon. At times it came as close as 6 feet from me. It moved very fast in general. At one time the surfer had left his surfboard at the edge of the lake and the bird foraged in between the boards. Quite a cute bird! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRE6AEbxE-Y [http://img.youtube.com/vi/vRE6AEbxE-Y/0.jpg]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRE6AEbxE-Y Purple Sandpiper - YouTube A Purple Sandpiper at Myers Point Tompkins County New York on 10/26/14 feeding along the shore. Watch now...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRE6AEbxE-Y Also from the East Shore, I saw 6 or 7 female Black Scoters very actively foraging and being underwater for quite sometime.
