We are trying to do some sampling underneath the in-town Ithaca crow roost in
the next few weeks. The final resting spot seems to be a bit more mobile than
in some years, and we could use some help in keeping track of it.

I had my first of the year Dryden village Redpols this morning.
Perhaps it's a sign of spring. I rarely get them until mid March.

Today's Cornell Forecast is very interesting. I wonder if the forecaster had
some problem writing as it was below zero with wind-chill.
There has been such a proliferation of bird ID guides, most with faults of some
kind, since the days when we had a simple choice between Chan Robbin's Golden
Guide
and Peterson's! Then came my still favorite, the National Geographic guide
currently
in its fifth ed.

Got it too and am intrigued by it. It seems to address many of my goals for
birding id skills, like distance, jizz, and flying birds. He (Crossley)
will be at the Monday night seminar at the Lab of O on Feb 28. Also did the
guide to Shorebirds, same philosophy.
