[cayugabirds-l] Be on the lookout for wing-tagged Great Egrets and Great Blue Herons
All - Here is a message from Chip Weseloh from Environment Canada about this summer's chick-banding and tagging. Please post to the list if you spot any of these birds. Jane We've wing-tagged 130 young Great Egrets and 50 young GReat Blue Herons. The egrets have green wing tags (one on each wing); the herons have either orange or green tags (also, one on each wing). They all have number-number-letter written on the tags, e.g. 17B. -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Fwd: American White Pelican at Whitney Point
The pelican has wandered, so keep your eyes peeled. I got this message yesterday (18 July) from Suzanne Henderson.--Dave NutterBegin forwarded message: Dave,I wanted to bring you up to date on the Pelican. It appears to have left Dorchester Park.My friend did not walk this morning due to storms in that area. When she went late in theafternoon the Pelican was notthere, but she got to personally question the Park Manager, and he said the AmWhtPelican had not been seen any time during the day today, and he (the manager) felt it had moved on. He told her that an American White Pelican was present at Dorchester Park last year for about three days. He said the behavior of the Pelican last year was much like this year, itwas present during morning hours, and always in the middle of Canadian Geese. He said he recalled it seemed to be resting the first day, and then became more actively flying around on thefew subsequent days it remained. My friend did not ask him if he had noted the dates last year that a AmWhtPelican was present. My friend has been walking the park for years, but just started early morning walks there this year. She knows she did not see it last year. Do you know if anyone from Ithaca went to see it? Do you recall any previous reports ofsighting an AmWhtPelicanfrom that area? ---Suzanne -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: Welcome and Basics Rules and Information Subscribe, Configuration and Leave Archives: The Mail Archive Surfbirds BirdingOnThe.Net Please submit your observations to eBird! --
[cayugabirds-l] Sandhill Crane, Wolcott
Hi, We received a report from a group of local birders of a Sandhill Crane in northern Wayne County. It was seen last Friday on Garner Road, Wolcott, NY, just south of Chimney Bluffs State Park - in a field on the east side of the road.A pair was recorded in this vicinity in July, 2005. Possibly a breeding location?
