I finally got out to do some Basin birding on this summery March day -- a few
highlights below:
Started very early (0610) on Salt Rd. in Summerhill State Forest, where I heard
2 GREAT HORNED and 2 BARRED OWLS but no Saw-whet or Long-eared -- it was warm
and dead calm. PINE SISKINS were everywhe
Anyone have a good line on where to find a snipe? I would like to find
one to photograph. No "Snipe Hunts" please (?:

Took a trip to Montezuma today with birding friend Stephen Hill.
It was an awesome March day...totaled 63 species which is pretty
good, but not unexpected given the exceptional warmth.

This afternoon near Coventry Walk at Northwood Apartments my husband and I saw
two GRAY CATBIRDS in the brush and one was singing. Also there were two pair
of NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS singing just like titmice, robins, peepers and
killdeer.

At 12:30 a Northern Goshawk was soaring north from the Hammond Hill area. It
