Closer view from Poplar Ridge just as it descends, not the greatest spot to
pull over.

HI all,
In addition to the balmy southerly breeze, the delights of my walk up Mt
Pleasant Rd this morning (10:15 - 11:15 or so) included:
A flock of 35-40 Snow Buntings
A singing White-breasted Nuthatch
A singing Black-capped Chickadee
Ah, spring!

My friend, Nola Paquette Desimone, just emailed me this link. Brightens my

I stopped at a traditional field bird spot (intersection of Salt, W.
Malloryville, and Peruville Rds.) and found 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS in among
approx. 75 each HORNED LARKS and SNOW BUNTINGS. Viewing was not easy.
Also saw a N. SHRIKE at a traditional spot for them of Ellis Hollow Creek
and Turkey
Still there, east of Indian Field rd, south of Poplar Ridge rd. in field 3-400
ft. from I F Rd.

Snowy Owl 2:19 pm south of G-V town line rd, west of Ind. Fld. Rd. ( unplowed,
dirt rd. , tiny sign town line on tele. Pole. )
Owl on big pile of snow behind 1st house south of town line rd.
Pile of snow north of small red garage type bldg.
best viewed from north side of whitish-lite gray house.
I was wondering who's tracks I followed. The same mix of winter field birds
were on Cornell Lane in Dryden with viewing somewhat easier. There was also a
nice flock of Turkey's (21) and a dark phase Rough-legged Hawk.

Late afternoon, I went trolling for owls. I, too, found a dark phase
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK in a tree top along Creamery Rd., outside of Slaterville.
Then at the crest of Hart Rd., Town of Dryden, an adult NORTHERN SHRIKE was
hunting in the hedgerow there, at 1630h. No owls.
