I believe I probably saw those same two rough-legged hawks (that Kevin
mentioned) this morning, at about 11, as I drove on Sapsucker Rd. north of the
lab going to Rte. 13. The light one flew right along over the road and then
the dark one came from behind and followed it for a bit. Afterwards
I was just looking out the staff lounge window and had 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS fly
by. First a beautiful light form came out of the north, circled the pond a
couple of times, then disappeared over the trees to the south. Not five minutes

Just seen on lake: 8 elegant TUNDRA SWANS gliding by a small (250?) raft of
mostly REDHEADS with a few SCAUP sp. & RING-NECKED DUCKS & some HERRING GULLS.
all of a sudden the whole raft flew north.
It reminded me that when the larger Aythya rafts were here a month ago, from
the railroad track
Any bird banders out there have any idea how to trap this bird. Something
like what is used for trapping hummingbirds perhaps. I do not have enough
knowledge to advise on this.

On this white, frosty morning our feeders are buzzing with a group of about 20
Redpolls and 6 or 7 Pine Siskins. They are constantly landing for a few
moments, then flying up to the trees, then landing again. It's hard to get an
accurate count! They fight among themselves for the feeder perches.
