Here is my ebird checklist from yesterday to give people an idea how I came up
with 400k:

40 Snow Goose -- Estimated two ways. First, I used my odometer to determine
the length of the flock along the road as 1.6 miles. Then I randomly counted
one row of geese straight out which averaged 100. Figuring one row every 2
feet comes out to 422,400. Second, I used Google Earth to draw a closed area
on the map that the flock occupied. This came out to 444,519 square meters.
Using one bird per square meter to arrive at 444,519. Those densities may be
high so I rounded down to 400,000. That being said there was another quite
large raft in the middle of the lake that I did not work on.
