[cayugabirds-l] Orchard Orioles at Salt Point Natural Area

2021-05-07 Thread Martha Hoffman
Hello All-

My husband and I went for a morning bird walk at Salt Point where we had
multiple Orchard Oriole sightings!!

At one point we saw 4 males and 1 female simultaneously in/near a flowering
apple tree along the southern leg of the trail. 2 male Baltimores were also in
the tree at the same time- distinctly different in color.

We’re still novice birders, but are 99% sure in our ID- definitely not robins
or towhees! :) Would love to get confirmation from more experienced birders if
anyone else is heading to Salt Point today.

We have a low quality iPhone video of a male where you can hear its calls that
we’d be happy to share with anyone who is interested.

Yay! Spring!
- Martha

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Red-headed Woodpecker

2021-05-22 Thread Martha Hoffman
A red-headed woodpecker has visited our feeder/yard in Lansing three days in a
row!

We had a pretty nice view of it last night hopping between trees, calling and
drumming frequently. Hoping it will stick around.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Common yellowthroat

2022-05-06 Thread Martha Hoffman
That sounds more pleasant than the early morning alarm we’ve had for the past
couple of weeks: a yellow-bellied sapsucker drumming on the downspout of our
gutter. He’s been at it today for 45 minutes! The resonance is quite
impressive.

[cayugabirds-l] Evening Grosbeak

2023-05-06 Thread Martha Hoffman
An evening grosbeak just spent 5 minutes hanging out on the ground at our
feeder in Lansing. First time sighting for me! Beautiful bird.
