Fox sparrows are still over the place in Broome Co, often multiple birds and
many birds singing! How nice it is to hear so often the last week or so...

I’m watching some foraging under a band of spruces at this moment. In a normal
spring I expect to have them around my place for 3 weeks or more.

A couple of Hermit Thrushes ate calling behind me. Here’s a Ruby-crowned
Kinglet, over there is a Towhee. Now some Golden-crowned Kinglets. Oh, here
come the Wood Ducks, skimming the tops of the spruces. Distant Field Sparrow

Hey, here’s my local Broad-winged Hawk, back on territory!

told him to put them into checklists in eBird because every photo uploaded for
a species (especially good ones like his) put Merin a step closer to getting
the identification program to being able to ID it, but also that every photo

So, as New Yorkers say, Excelsior! Ever upward! Honestly, I've been birding
since the lat 1960s and early 1970s, about 50 years. There has never been such
a great time to be a birder as right now. You can get spectacular binoculars

courses I've created at https://academy.allaboutbirds.org/course-list/). You
can find out almost real-time information about what rare birds are where. You
have information on your phone about what birds are likely anywhere on earth,

[cayugabirds-l] Fox Sparrows

2018-04-03 Thread Geo Kloppel
A bit disappointed that I hadn’t been hearing any Fox Sparrows around home, I
walked down through the shrubby bands of 40 year old spruces near my border
with the Lindsay-Parsons Preserve, and found two there, silently rummaging in
the fallen leaves and needles. I got kind of wet for my trouble, but now I’m
back in my shop, drying by the wood fire and picking off the ticks!

2016-04-04 Thread Meena Madhav Haribal
Hi Colleen,

I sent an email to Cayugabirds regarding the about 30 Fox Sparrows I saw along
Hunt Hill, Hurd Road, Thomas Road and Synder Hill Road all together. I sent
the email three times but it did not get posted. So I am not sure what is going
on. May be I am barred from posting.

So never mind about them I saw plenty of them for my whole life.

BTW, I have eight more people want to get tickets the movie. I will wait for a
couple more days then we can decide totally how many we need to reserve for the
movie.

Cheers

Meena

Each morning's dawn chorus around my place lately has included the songs of

[cayugabirds-l] Fox Sparrows / Pheasant / Turkeys

2016-03-20 Thread Annette Nadeau
In Brooktondale this morning there are three FOX SPARROWS in my yard
scritching around in the leaves under a spruce tree. They're in the same
spot as the Fox Sparrow I recently reported.

Also heard, but didn't see, a RING - NECKED PHEASANT. It's the first I've
heard in the five years I've lived here.

The TURKEYS were vocalizing up the road early this morning, too.

Happy first day of Spring!

[cayugabirds-l] Fox Sparrows & Evening Grosbeaks

2012-10-30 Thread Dan & Kathy C
This morning there were 4 Fox Sparrows working in the leaf litter in one of
our flower beds. About 11:30 a flock of 8 Evening Grosbeaks came to the
feeders. After feeding, they hung out in the top of an ash tree for a
while. No sign of them now at 12:30. We also had varying numbers of Pine
Siskins over the last week as well as several Purple Finches. The usual
yard and feeder birds are feeding heavily today trying to make up for
yesterday.

[cayugabirds-l] Fox Sparrows, singing

2012-10-25 Thread Nancy W Dickinson
On this spring-like morning I found at least 5 Fox Sparrows on our hill, one of
them repeating a brightly whistled song, all posing to give me great views.
Also more Cedar Waxwings than I could count (hundreds), and nearly as many
robins, all eating the fruits on our "mystery trees" (some kind of hawthorn
that keeps branches full of small yellow-orange fruits into the winter when
they are all eaten-- anyone know the name?). Also singing were flocks of
Redwing Blackbirds, stopping to rest and o-ker-ee!, as well as many
White-throated Sparrows piping up.

Carpe diem!

Was delighted to be able to watch two Fox Sparrows foraging in a snowless patch

But I was sad to find that the loud commotion of crows and whatever-else in our
